I usually buy my cds from shows. You get the best deals I feel plus you support the band by coming out to see them. Also if I know a band is good live then their cd is definitely going to be good

  • Michael Mower - 15 years ago

Absolutely cannot wait for the new Dream Theater and Machine Head albums!!!!!!!!!

  • Td - 15 years ago

Online or from the artist directly.

  • Larry Cusmano - 15 years ago

From Vintage Vinyl in Fords, New Jersey, from bands at shows and from Amazon UK

  • sally - 15 years ago

Tend to buy everything online now, my disability makes browsing a pain but I do miss the excitement of picking up an 'unknown' cd and discovering something great. Browsing online is not so much fun.

  • Mehdi - 15 years ago

I really miss the days when album covers really made a difference. Itunes has destroyed the whole idea of OWNING your own copy of an album.

  • James - 15 years ago

Always prefer to buy local when I can

  • Mark - 15 years ago

Just can't wait for dream theater. Could be such a big change in style. Hope not, but sometimes the thought of a new beginning or starting point means they try to go in a new direction too.

  • john - 15 years ago

I still prefer the little thrill of finding something in my local store and listening to it in the car on the way back home. But when I can't find it there, I'll buy from the merch tables

  • Kurt - 15 years ago

Usually Amazon. Their 3.99 (or less) albums of the day are irresistable.

  • Deanna - 15 years ago

It is more convenient for me to get music from itunes or amazon because I can have it right away and can easily upload it to my ipod or mp3 player. However, if I really like the band, I make the effort to get the actual CD from a record store.

  • Isaac H - 15 years ago

I love buying CDs and records. The experience of going into a local record store (or what's left of them) and looking around for stuff you wanna buy, or just browsing is amazing. It's also great to find bargain CDs or LPs for $2-3.

  • Chino De Leon - 15 years ago

I still do it the old fashioned way.BUY AT YOUR LOCAL RECORD STORE!!! Support jobs and More old school thrill!

  • Shahrul Azamer - 15 years ago

For me, it's always local music store or eBay.

  • Gabriel Freitas - 15 years ago

Amazon.com is a good place to buy music!

  • Bobby Meehan - 15 years ago

I typically purchase music from the band's Web site or record label because I enjoy buying the "extras" that are offered from the band or label that one cannot buy in a big box store. Whether it's vinyl, box sets, special editions, T-shirt bundles, etc. I enjoy shopping at my local record stores to find items that have been released for a while that I missed the first time around I'm catching up on buying. I love the thrill of the hunt for Record Store Day releases. It's a great way to get to know the people behind the counter at my local stores, support the indie business people trying to earn and honest buck and keep the dollars in the community. But the coolest experience is hearing a band live -- going into the venue not knowing much about them -- and being blown away by them as they open the night. I love buying their record during the "highs" of the live experience. Sometimes the band members are at the merch stand selling their CDs and new fans get an opportunity to meet the band and grow with them during their career. I never forget that night and THAT's what it's all about! I cannot wait to see Dream Theater in Houston in October and I'm equally excited about seeing Trivium live. I look forward to experiencing their live show as well as experiencing the opportunity to meet Dream Theater during their premium backstage experience. Keeping it real and keeping the music close to the fans is what it's all about!

  • Paul C. - 15 years ago

I buy my new music at Newbury Comics. PS... Nice work signing Rush to the label!!

  • Ben M - 15 years ago

Can't wait to hear Heritage and Unto The Locust!!

  • Lewi - 15 years ago

I buy my albums from the local record store wherever possible; for me, that's usually JB Hi-Fi, though for some of the more difficult to find Gothic and Industrial stuff, I usually check out a little place called Peril Underground (I'm in Melbourne, Australia).

If I can't get it from a physical store, that's when I turn to Amazon for more obscure artists.

Of course, if there are special editions, signed copies or what have you up for grabs, I'll order from whoever is offering them; label, band website, whatever.

  • Gabrielle Lee - 15 years ago

I love to support the little guy and buy most if not all my music from my local stores.

  • Bryce Hawks - 15 years ago

I like buying CD's more than using iTunes, because I like to have a physical copy. I get a lot of my CD's at thrift stores for like $2.00, when I can find something i'm interested in. Otherwise I'll get a CD at Target or on eBay.

  • Matt - 15 years ago

People still enjoy buying CD's from the store because you get it's quick, get's you the real copy, and can still allow transfers to your iPod or MP3 device.

  • Twilight Overhiser - 15 years ago

    We could only pick three...

  • Bas Dado - 15 years ago

Most of the tie from local stores, but I bought some stuff on iTunes or similar online MP3 stores, if the actual CD was hard to find or way more expensive

  • Jose DeJesus - 15 years ago

I usually get my Albums from Target. If not their, then Best Buy. Not too many good record stores in my neighborhood.

  • Matt Newham - 15 years ago

I still try to buy things from the local store, but now that I'm out country, I'm more likely to find "Glen Campbell's Greatest Hits" than much in the way of Roadrunner fare. If there's something available like "Dramatic Turn of Events - Deluxe Edition", I'll get it any (legal) way I can!

  • Russ - 15 years ago

From my local record stores!!!! It's just crazy that i go to these stores and get as many as i can! My room is literally covered with CDs!! I can't help it! Its a disease!!! I'm wasting too much money!!! I need some free CDs once in awhile!!!!

  • Jeff - 15 years ago

Keep it old school with the actual album in hand, liner notes and everything! Digitization is fine up to a point, but gimme something concrete for my $!!

  • Anne - 15 years ago

Even though I will sometimes buy a track on iTunes, I tend to buy the actual CD at my local record store because I like to have the actual, physical CD in my hands...like to be able to read those liner notes. Sometimes, if it's a smaller band who I happen to like, I will buy from the show. But to me, nothing compares to having that actual physical CD in your hands!

  • Chris Wilson - 15 years ago

Where possible directly from the band (through either gig or band site) or, seeing as ther eno decent music stores nearby (I don't think Tesco count's :P) so that leaves me amazon and the likes

  • Dean - 15 years ago

I really prefer to buy from the local Record store mostly because I like to have a hard copy of the music just in case my computer crashes and also at least I know that some of the money I am spending stays here in my community.

But I will buy a cd at a show if it is the first time I am hearing the band and I really like their music. I buy it at the show so I remember the band name cause you know Show+beer = No Memory.
And I use iTunes to get some of the older songs that are out of print.

  • Damián - 15 years ago

I am delighted to see that I am not the only one who buys records on local stores nowadays. Keeping in your hands the latest CD of your favourite artist, watching the cover and the package, running fast home to open it and listen to it at your discman or hi-fi system is an experience that any digital store will never give you.

  • mattc0013 - 15 years ago

Nothing beats browsing the record stores and looking at the album art. I always hit the record stores and only order on-line from Amazon if i can not find what i'm looking for.

  • nelitodv - 15 years ago

I buy CD´s on my local record store...i love feel the physical copy. It´s a way of being a little more closed to my favorite bands...i have more than 500 cd´s and i can´t stop of buying more...lol!!!

  • Dan - 15 years ago

    Newbury!!!

  • Tom - 15 years ago

I love buying cds because I can look through the booklet at lyrics, photos and artwork whilst listening and it feels good to hold a physical copy in your hands.

  • arkanoid - 15 years ago

I can call buying music my passion, I love to spend days going through my collection, reading lyrics, listening to them, etc.

  • Phil Sims - 15 years ago

Although I usually download my cds to my computor, so that they can be put onto my Ipod, I prefer to purchase the acual cds from a record store, used or new. I just like to have the cd, and art booklet in my hands. Although I could never carry 200 cds when I had a diskman, but close to 1000 songs on my Ipod is awesome.

  • Marchal Nicolas - 15 years ago

I prefer to buy cd's than online mp3s because I prefer to have the object an the art work etc...

  • Jason - 15 years ago

I use most methods listed. But, I like the physical product more than mp3's and streams. Something really satisfying about having something in my hand. Being able to look at the art work up close, while listening.

  • j - 15 years ago

I prefer to buy from the band directly at a show. Direct support, baby. No middle man fees

  • Bill - 15 years ago

Pre orders off itunes. So quick and easy and no clutter around the house with CD cases...

  • Jeff Barker - 15 years ago

I like to own the physical copy of an album... so I try to get it at local record store, but they don't have what I'm looking for a lot of times. In that case, I'll sometimes order from a website like amazon. Recently I've bought a few albums from itunes, because it's rare or hard to find stuff that I like.

  • sloanjet - 15 years ago

love to buy directly from bands at gigs since i feel the $ goes right into their pocket.

  • Sarah - 15 years ago

If it is a band I love coming out with a new album, I'll usually pre-order the CD. If it's a band I simply like, I'll usually get the mp3s. If it's a band I haven't listened to much, but whose live show I enjoyed, I will buy a CD at their show. :)

  • Jamie - 15 years ago

Prefer to buy direct from a band at a gig or direct from their label. Unfortunately I no longer have a local record shop which was previously my favourite method. If I really want to hear something immediately and I can't wait for shipping I will by mp3 albums, if I like it I'll invariably end up buying a physical copy at a later point.

  • Shassidy - 15 years ago

I buy music usually from record stores or bookstores that also sell music. If it is a CD I am particularly excited about, I pre-order it from whatever source I've heard from the band that you can pre-order it, usually a band or record website.

  • Lorelai - 15 years ago

I dislike the idea of buying MP3, I prefer buying CDs!!

  • pyroania - 15 years ago

Usually at concerts, because some underground bands sell special editions only at live concerts. And they're often cheaper there. But I also buy CD's in my local record store.

  • Star - 15 years ago

I like to get stuff from the label or band because you can get extra stuff that way, and sometimes it's the only way to get the collector's editions.

  • gil - 15 years ago

i buy them at the show cuz theyre hella cheap compared to itunes

  • gil - 15 years ago

    slipknot/stone sour

  • Andy - 15 years ago

I often buy music for bands I am exploring online as MP3s as it can be cheaper. But for my favourite bands I prefer CDs so I have the artwork, lyrics etc. Getting a CD at a gig is good too as often you can get it signed while you are there.

  • Joshua - 15 years ago

The cost of cd's is almost inconsequential compared to what I'm getting in return; a hard copy of the music I love. I almost never buy music through iTunes or the like because the thought of my computer crashing and losing all my music is horrifying. And yeah, I could just burn some cd's, but then I don't get the artwork, lyrics, linear notes etc., that come with the store-bought cd.

  • Ronald Campbell - 15 years ago

Great contest! Love all of these bands!
I buy local band's CD's at the show. Otherwise, Amazon.com or the local store for everyone else!

  • Branden Waggoner - 15 years ago

I usually buy my cd's at B est Buy or at the show of local bands

  • gil - 15 years ago

these days I mostly buy from bands at their shows but I've also got back into vinyl recently so I've been buying at record stores too. Ebay is still my mainline for stuff I can't find locally.

  • Bill Janowski - 15 years ago

I definitely prefer record/CD stores and the physical product (CD's & LP's) over downloads anytime, unless the release isn't available physically.

  • Dave Thomas - 15 years ago

I like to go to "RECORD STORES" and browse, never know what you might find. Now-a-days there are no decent record stores around except one small chain. I miss Licorice Pizza.

  • phillip evans - 15 years ago

i love collecting cd's, instead of downloading which just feels abit wrong

  • Will W. - 15 years ago

I live in a very rural area an hour away from a record store, and I like getting my music when it comes out. I usually order from the band or label.

  • Terry Bunch - 15 years ago

Pre-orders often come with bonuses so that is an incentive. I like the physical liner notes and artwork and enjoy looking through them/reading the lyrics while listening to the CD.

Some vendors utilize below par services to encode their MP3s so you lose a lot of the dynamic sound. Most digital vendors do a decent job, but unless they are selling high bit rate MP3s, there is going to be noticeable sound loss.

If the listener is only using inexpensive headphones through their cellphone or iPod, then they may not notice the fidelity loss, but when played on a good stereo, you can tell.

  • Travis - 15 years ago

Itunes it or just listen on youtube. But I am pumped for the MH and Opeth albums! My favorite bands!

  • Travis - 15 years ago

Itunes it or just listen on youtube. But I am pumped for the MH and Opeth albums! My favorite bands!

  • Jack Stephens - 15 years ago

I typically buy CDs from Amazon. That is also where I typically buy MP3s from. There aren't really any great record stores in my city anymore, but that is where I used to buy things. I am a huge music buyer and I always have been. I try my very best to not buy anything from iTunes since I hate it.

  • Kalle Johansson - 15 years ago

Softwares such as Spotify are the future in the music industry!

  • shaun - 15 years ago

who knew most people go to stores to buy music

  • john english - 15 years ago

I always buy the albums. While I was in college I'd digitally buy off amazon the singles that were released before the album to play on my radio show but the second the record was out i'd own it. Still buy like 3 a week, i think i have a problem

  • Matt W - 15 years ago

Usually from Amazon or maybe another online store. Occasionally I pre-order from an artist's website if they have an exclusive special edition with extra tracks. Now and then, I will pick something up in HMV.

  • Ed - 15 years ago

I buy on the internet, because it's a little cheaper, but I try to buy new (to support bands) rather than second hand.

  • clint cope - 15 years ago

can't wait for the new opeth

  • Brett Ramsey - 15 years ago

I think artists are supported through merch and touring, not album sales! But if the artist is selling the CD or MP3, I'll buy it straight from them.

  • Cindy - 15 years ago

Buy local. Buy direct. Support your bands and their labels, not corporate america.

  • Xaime Hernandez - 15 years ago

This would be awesome I still listen to MH first album religiously!

  • Dirk Agueros - 15 years ago

I buy most of my music from Amazon, as the prices and availabilty are the key reasons. I also have bands that I follow and buy their music at their website or their labels website. It just so happens that most of the music I listen to, has a Roadrunner Records label! I just finished organizing my music and it took two days! So, you can imagine I have bought music, at some point, by every means possible.

  • Rachel fry - 15 years ago

CDs are cool to buy direct from the bands to get autographed! Otherwise they take up to much room anymore.

  • Gavin - 15 years ago

Buying cd and going to shows are the best ways to give tribute to the music you love. Just bought some old stuff of Slipknot. RIP, Paul Gray.

  • Cliff Curry - 15 years ago

I have never bought .mp3s online mainly because I worry about DRM. I will listen to streams online, but I'd much rather have a physical CD that I can own and then convert to my own .mp3s.

  • Angela S - 15 years ago

Awesome! Would love the chance to win these albums. My preference is to buy band's albums direct from them at shows (as I attend LOTS of shows) so that they are directly paid and know that the fans appreciate their music and actually want physical copies to take home with them and play. Also, I happen to be a vinyl collector, so I tend to buy from my local record stores and if there is an album I absolutely have to have and the band doesn't sell it direct from their website, I'll purchase via Amazon (as a last resort). I feel it's important that the bands get the most money from the sale and I know everyone gets a cut from packaging to shipping, but it's a good feeling to know I'm supporting the music I love the best way I can. Thanks again for the opportunity!! Let's hope I'm the lucky winner.

  • Janine - 15 years ago

I tend to buy my music from either Amazon.com or I preorder it from the band's site if I really am excited by it.

  • Ric - 15 years ago

I still typically buy whole CDs, either from a record store, or online. Lately though, I've been picking up some MP3s online, for free if I can find them. I've an Amazon app on my phone which has a free song of the day, and I've picked up a dozen or so that way.

  • Alice - 15 years ago

Normally I get my albums as presents from my relatives at Christmas and birthdays, but I've just pre-ordered ADTOE because I knew that I had the money to do so, I'm also planning on pre-ordering Heritage but I don't have the money at the moment, so I might have to wait until release day.

  • Ryan - 15 years ago

I find most big box stores don't have good metal cd's and when asked they point me to Nickelback. Online is the only way to find exactly what I'm looking for without the hassle.

  • Davide - 15 years ago

    Interesting poll, yeah!

  • Yasin - 15 years ago

I buy music by the websites 7digital.com, cdbaby.com sometimes mp3million.com. Unfotunately Amazon.com doesn't let me buy from my country. I also buy from webstores of my country, Turkey, such as TTNet Music website by mobile payment options. I generally look for Paypal option on buying music from web.

  • Gary - 15 years ago

Bands need to create full albums worth of quality music, which METAL never stopped doing. Throw in a quality album and it keeps you listening from beginning to end. To me that creates value and I will happily buy the album from my local record store, Amazon or directly from the artist. As long as Metal bands don't begin looking to create singles for radio play I will continue to purchase albums. No one wants to pay $14 for 2 quality songs and a handful of misplaced throw-aways. The rest of the music industry should learn to "keep it metal" and give us quality full albums and their dwindling sales will return. I also hope the executives realize Metal fans are very polarized and need to respect their audience because they will respond.

  • CC - 15 years ago

I usually pre order off of amazon.com. Sometimes I order deluxe editions from labels or band websites.

  • Shane - 15 years ago

I don't mind buying them from a retail place like Best Buy, especially in the first week of the release because they are usually a little more reasonably priced for having the physical CD. I only wish that certain retail joints (iTunes included) did not sell their very own special edition of the album. I really appreciate being able to have all the songs + physical CD without having to pay for any album twice!

  • Johnny - 15 years ago

I do it all... amazon, emusic, itunes, big chain, small local store, band merch booth, website... it depends on the artist and what format I started with, also price and exclusiveness... sometimes I get advanced copies or autographed editions, or even european or japanese off of ebay... I have one of those obsessive/compulsive deals, that means I have to keep it all organized MY WAY!!! Mind yer own bizznass!

  • Martin - 15 years ago

I usually buy my cd's in record stores, or order them online. I like to have the physical copy of a cd so I have a booklet to defile with my calloused digits.
Really looking forward to hearing more from the new Opeth album which I'm buying no matter what.
I have bhought a few albums in mp3 format online but I prefer the real deal.
I do however convert most of my cd's into mp3's so I can listen to them on my MP3 player.
Since music is a big part of my life and one of my greatest loves I have filled my storage spaces with cd's and almost have no room left, yet I keep on buying cd's.

  • Darren - 15 years ago

I like to look the band up on you tube first -if any good i'll get from Amazon

  • Jeff Betke - 15 years ago

    I'm oldschool. I still buy CD's.

  • Cara - 15 years ago

I buy my music at local stores.

  • Pierre-Henry - 15 years ago

I buy most of my CDs in record shops, usually I know the bands, so I'm almost sure what to expect. Sometimes though I buy a CD because I read good critics in the press, or even because I like the cover! And more and more often I'm blown away by great live gigs, so I buy the CD right after the concert, so I can listen to it on the way back home.

  • dan - 15 years ago

Unless its a band I really love, I won't go buy it, but it's the opposite if I love the band. I always order the big box sets if I could afford it.

  • Virgil Bowling - 15 years ago

I sample bands by buying singles from iTunes then tend to buy the full CD on Amazon or at Best Buy. BTW Machine Head and Trivium were fucking AWESOME at Mayhem Festival!!!

  • Sean - 15 years ago

I buy music from any place i can get a deal. Usually Ebay since they are the only ones I can find bands that are hard to find. And usually at great deals.

  • Corey - 15 years ago

Record stores. If it isn't there, then I find it somewhere else, but it has to be the physical CD. Yard sales are great for the cheap ones.

  • Kevin - 15 years ago

I purchase my music where ever I can find it. Whether it be at a store or on-line. It is where ever I can get the best deal for my money.

  • akrazo - 15 years ago

i buy from lable/band site when they have package deals for those new releases from the bands on my short list. i order cds off amazon or buy mp3s from amazon or my zune sub monthly credit. i usually already have the whole catalogue when i go to a show so no reason to buy cos it isnt often a band plays my area within a week of a release. there used to be some decent stores around here but that was 10 years ago. now the only brick and mortar options are walmart, target best buy and b&n. i still want the physical cd when its a band i really dig and there is something to the artwork (not just a jewel case and insert).
