I know she has passed this passion onto many both as a librarian and as a friend to soooo many people.

When I first met Pauline, on my first visit to the library, it felt like my first day of school. I was so scared upon entering the library, as I knew nobody and I was so shy. Pauling sensed this, and instantly attending to me promptly and kindly. She had a great knowledge of all the books in the library, and amazing people skills to match. She made me understand the beauty of books and how they can contribute to my life in so many different ways. Due to Pauline's kindness and helpfulness, I am now a regular at the WRLC (Horsham), and I come to the Library even to just discuss new books that I've discovered with Pauline! Pauline has been an inspiration to say the least, not only guiding my in the direction of books that will improve my school work and my general knowledge, but also making me realise the sheer enjoyment that one can get out of reading a fact or fiction novel. Thank-you for your help all these years Pauline, and for making my WRLC experience great. You are an inspiration to me, and I highly recommend anyone that is looking to begin reading or what not, to come to the WRLC (Horsham), and speak to Pauline if you are not sure where to begin your journey into the wide world of reading and studying!

I moved to the Deniliquin from Brisbane knowing not many people and have made regular visits to this library.
Peter P is not your usual librarian, he is very proactive with kids, oldies and everyone in between.
From doing craft, reading stories and singing songs with the kids, to having a yarn with a local elderly person and throwing his five cents worth in on a group of kids arguing.
I rarely leave the library without having had a chuckle at his antics, or being bewildered that he had an answer to a curly question I had been researching for weeks.
On top of this, he is a real nice bloke and if I didn't love books so much, I would probably go to the library just to see what he had going on in the library at the time.
I must add that he has an exceptional team who work with him and they are all very welcoming and always seem happy which comes back to the positivity of their leading librarian.

  • Cindy Sarris - 13 years ago

I have known Helen for many years. As the Secondary School College Librarian she assisted many students into an easy Tertiary education transition. Always ready to help students who asked and those who were lost in the quest for information. Teaching staff relied heavily on her knowledge and I could not recommend any one else more suited to receive this award.
