there are good americans of all races. Obama and his associated are not among them. He is attemting to lead this country down a road of hate. He will do anything and say anything to get elected. For twenty years he has been part of hate america with his spiritual leader and advisor. They are racist and anti-america. They want a black, left wing america. Tonight good ameicans of all backgrounds should be scared to death. Obama's election will be the distruction of this nation--

I beleive senetor Obama, as long as he didn't say it himself. again what fox news is trying to do is; now that Obama is the front runner of the democratic party and expected to be the nominee. they wish him to drop out. that is their best they can come up with. cheap shot I guess.

    keep dreaming guys.

obama should step down this is sick to think that americans cant see now how much a liar obama is he is a disgrace to america

I have had doubts about Obama since he started on the campaign trail. I watched as he responded to his pastors comments and he doesn't convince me that after having this pastor as he mentor & close friend for twenty years that he never heard him say these things before. Obama has been listening to this since he was young & that is why he is so far to the left. I don't believe what he is saying & I hope that those who do will wake up & see who he really is. It scares me if he were to become the President of the United States of America. I will definitely not vote for him.

This is rediculous that this has to be news! Why is religion such an issue when it comes to politics. Whatever happened to separation of church and state - or any of our civil liberties for that matter (Patriot Act). We all know people that we are close to that we do not agree with when it comes to politics. My Family and I are Democrats while the rest of our family are not. Maybe Barack and his pastor do not agree on these issues - is that not at all possible ( I guess not to most of America after reading a lot of theses posts) I do not condemn someone for being Catholic and being "friends" with their preacher when we all know the scandals going on in the Catholic church. I don't think that Catholics would agree with child molestation, but how many catholics have left the catholic church? My guess is not too many! Why should Barack have to leave his church when his pastor makes remarks that may offend some ignorant people in America? The situations are different, but the point is the same.

If you listened to what the pastor said, can anyone tell me one thing that was incorrect? I doubt it! The United States of Embarrasment (oops....I mean "America") has become a disgrace! Americans all agreed that Sadaam Hussein was a bad person for killing his own people, yet America (the government) did nothing to help its own people that were in need (Katrina). America is the most hypocritical country on the face of the earth. I love the freedom we have in America and wouldn't want to live anywhere else, but that doesn't mean that I agree with anything that America does - because I don't. This is the same country that has put another country in turmoil under false pretenses. Bush, Cheney, and the whole government has lied to us all in regards to Iraq, yet Obama being friends with and attending the church of a black preacher saying "offensive" things is worse apparently -that's sad! For the people who posted negatively on Obama and his preacher about this subject, if you were a black person living in America - would you really feel anything differently?

America is a joke that I'm sick of hearing!!!

My comment you can't chose your family but you can choose your friends. There is a smell in the air and it is BO. He has lost all the potencial votes coming from this area.

GOD GAVE EVERY MAN FIVE SENSES TO BE USED.I DISAGREE WITH MY PASTOR OFTEN BUT KEEP GOING BECAUSE OF THE WONDERFUL RELATIOSHIP WITH OTHER MEMBERS.I DO NOT DO WHAT I CONSIDER WRONGFUL TEACHING.JESUS IS THE ONLY ONE WHO HASN'T ERRORED IN ANYTHING HE HAS DONE AND HE IS THE WISEIST OF THE WISE.MRS OBOMA DID NOT SAY HER COUNTRY WAS MEAN.MY MOTHER USE TO SAY YOU GOT UP ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE BED.THE PASTOR PROBLEY GOT UP ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE BED THAT DAY.

  • marie - 18 years ago

Oh well, I better not run for president. My pastor feels the same way at times. I am sure "AMERICA" understands in the freedom of speech concept. Was I missing something did OBAMA say this or his pastor? Whose running for president? Let's move on.

Obama is not a truth teller or a truth seeker. Any idiot can make mistakes. we all do but to be this stupid about the American people is serious for an illegal alien, but excuseable, for the president of our country itis inexcuseable, and for a U.S. senator it is impeachable.

Please get to the truth. Match up the contents of Wright's sermons with the dates that Senator Obama attended that church. Unfortunately I feel that you will see much more of what we have already seen. The people need to know the truth so that they can make informed and fair decisions.

  • Terry - 18 years ago

Obama stumbled all over his words tonight. He is busted!!!! You do not go to a church for 20 years if you no not believe what is being preached!! What a racist!! Look at what is wife says about America. A shame!! A disgrace!!!

  • Barbara Smith - 18 years ago

I'm tired of people bringing up the past we don't live in the past. If his pastor wants to bring up the past of how blacks were slaves don't let him forget that other people of different races were slaves. I really think if he is a man of God he should not be preaching about the past and how they were treated. How could he say God Damn America the most wonderful country in the world. I was going to vote for Obama, but if he a follower of this man, and will not salute our most wonderful flag he lost my vote.

  • Judy - 18 years ago

Obama is LYING. There is NO WAY he could attend that church and not hear what that minister said in many sermons. Even if he "missed" those racist sermons, Obama was a member there for 20 years and certainly would have heard ABOUT those AWFUL MESSAGES DELIVERED BY REV. WRIGHT!

Obama has campaigned on the opposite of what he has lived in his church community. His wife was a memer of that church and his DAUGHTERS were allowed to attend with their parents and listen to these wild rantings!

JUDGMENT??? UNITY????? AMERICAN VALUES???? QUITE A JOKE TO HEAR THOSE WORDS FROM OBAMA FROM NOW ON.

I NEVER BELIEVED SEN. OBAMA'S RHETORIC PRIOR TO THIS...........SO NOT A SURPRISE. I'm from Chicago and was not taken in by his "I'm so good" claims.

Where did he get money for that huge mansion and private schools for his daughters? Claims he gave up working for a large law firm and helped poor blacks on the streets of Chicago! State Senators don't earn much and he's only been in Congress for part of a term..........

NOW he is claiming on CNN that he has a new pastor..........who cares now?
Rev. Wright was his advisor and mentor for 17 years.......up until Obama started his campaign for President of the U.S.

Rev. Wright sounds as bad as the worst RAP artists. Perhaps he influenced some of them over the 30 years he's been preaching to young children.

I AM DISGUSTED WITH THE OBAMA SUPPORTERS WHO ARE TRYING TO MINIMIZE THIS ENTIRE IMPORTANT PART OF BARACK OBAMA'S LIFE.

Where is Bill Cosby during a time like this? He needs to speak up about the way black children are being indoctrinated with white racism.

  • Michele Jones - 18 years ago

Obama was clearly lying, head bent, and stumbling over his words during the interview. He is done. How could you be friends with someone for 20 years and not know their beliefs and then still associate with them. He obviously has no judgement . Doesn't belong in politics any longer , not even the senate.. It was scary seeing a congregation applauding the sickness being preached. Thank God the truth about Obama was finally exposed

  • Ron - 18 years ago

So Michelle Obama says that American is a mean country. I only wish America was as mean to me as it has been to them, let's see, they both have made a lot of money, went to the best schools, we should have all been so mistreated by this country.

  • Barbara Smith - 18 years ago

It is no doubt in my mind that Barak is lying. There is no way he was not aware of that pastor's racism. People talk in and out of Church and are aware of what is going on at the Church when they do not attend regularly. This ordeal will set our country back at least 50 years. Another black pastor was on MSNBC today and said this is typical for most black Churches today while there are many black Churches trying to turn this around. I can honestly say that in my Church, (I am white and attend a white Church) we try to attrack new black members and would be horrified if this type of behavior occurred.

  • Ellen - 18 years ago

It has been stated that if BHO screws up now, it is his to lose the nomination. I think he has done just that. He did not distance himself from Rev Wright fast enough the same way he was slow on the uptake when asked about Louis Ferikan. and I don't believe for one minute that he had not heard or ever knew of the Reverand's rhetoric. Sorry, I am not buying it. I hate the fact I am now going to quote Bill Clinton..........This is the biggest fairy tale EVER.
I have also talked to my father in California and he reads three newspapers a day. (one on each coast and one local) and watches the nightly news and he has not heard about this breaking story. Unfortunately he doesn't watch Fox.
The media should be ashamed of themselves. There is no real reporting anymore. I weep for our country and I am scared.

Although the comments made by the pastor is explosive, they are not comments made by Obama. I was wondering when he would be stopped in his tracks. Other candidates have had people backing them with inflammatory comments. Againi, is it because Obama is balck. I love being an American and there is no other country or place that I would rather live. However, there are still serious racial issues in this country. When these issues are confronted, whites truly believe their is no injustice. If you could be black for a day, then you would feel and see the injustice. I am not relating this to two hundred years ago during slavery, but of present day. I see the injustice on a daily basis, but yet when mentioned, it is swept under the rug. I don't believe Obama could be any worst than what I have experienced during the past eight years with the surrent administration. If this is all that you can come up with th sabatoge his campaign, is it worth it. Truly, is America ready for a black leader? All he wants is a fair shake like every other candidate.

  • Winghunter - 18 years ago

I'ld say Michele's prepared statement of "For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country" now has the context we were trying to figure out when she said it.

A more unqualified, woefully inexperienced liberal lunatic freshman senator is ludicrously being heralded as the "change" and "hope" of our country. Which in this case means being up the creek without the 'hope' of having a paddle and the 'change' is a leak has sprung in the rowboat.

"At the core of liberalism is the spoiled child - miserable, as all spoiled children are, unsatisfied, demanding, ill disciplined, despotic, and useless. Liberalism is the philosophy of sniveling brats." - P.J. O'Rourke

  • Gina - 18 years ago

Finally! The true Obama is coming out. I was waiting for this to happen for a while! America seems to have fallen in love with this man, and I for one was never fooled...especially after Michelle's comment about being proud to be an american for the first time. I think that Wright and his followers are much more racist than anyone. They are the ones that are separating themselves and victimizing themselves. Personally, I'm sick of it. They can have "black colleges" and the "Black entertainment Channel", but if it's the other way around, then it's racism. Give me a break. If Obama becomes president, America is screwed. There will be more welfare and people will be EVEN MORE afraid to speak out. It took the media WAY TOO LONG to start digging up stuff about Obama because they were afraid to say anything about him and be accused of racists.

    GO HILLARY!

  • Iva Johnson - 18 years ago

I fine it very disturbing that Obama would stay in a church for 20 years with a minister that has such negetive views of America. I would hope that our President would attend a church that shows love & respect for all our people.

  • Paul Mead - 18 years ago

First, I must preface my remarks by saying I don't know to much about Senator Obama (his fault!), but he has seemed to me like a warm and honest leader, able to lead our very diverse country. (Although, I am a social conservative, so He and I would be at extremes in our beliefs). As a church attending Christian, and as one who believes that God Almighty loves Mr. Obama and me equally, I am appalled that Mr. Obama would attend a church
whose pastor would spew such harmful words. Obviously, the pastor thinks very poorly of our wonderful country. Now, at this point, I think I have learned some very valuable insight into the real Senator Obama. I have decided that he is really untrustworthy to lead our wonderful country and people.

  • Eleanor Goldstein - 18 years ago

Obama says P.Wright was/is like an uncle to him; and it is known he has been attending this Pastor's church for 20 years; so it is clear as crystal to me that in such a close relationship, P. Wright would have surely would have shared his black separatist theology and influenced Obama to the core. P.Wright is very committed by his own words to this separatist movement which in itself is against the teachings of Jesus, who emphasized that we are all one In Christ, and that He, (Jesus Christ) has broken down all barriers, such as race or color, etc., for to love God and to love one another is the fulfillment of the Law!

The rhetoric of the pastor stirs up irrational emotions and can cause violence in the streets.

Jesus says and warns His disciples to be aware of false shepherds, for they come as wolves in sheep's clothing!

We ought to find out before obama becomes president the answer to this question:

Will the real Barack Obama please stand up???

Imagine, if he gets to be president, the terrorists will threaten him and his family if he doesn't complies with their demands.

Also, his father and grandfather were Muslims in Kenya; as a child his mother taught school in Indonesia and married twice, both to Muslims.

    Enough said.

I really hope that this isn't the way BHO sees America. This was a Democratic candidate that really had some potential, but now, it just got all flushed away. I understand that all candidates made some bad decisions in their lives and associated themselves with some bad people, but no one should be associated with such a mean bastard. No one is forced to do anything in their lives and the way Rev. Wright blames whites for all African Americans' actions is purely dispicable. Obama got where he is by his own actions. He didn't grow up fighting his own race because he made a choice. I'm not some rich white boy that hates on race. I truly believe that we, as Americans, are on the right path. It may take many more years to come for us to be accepted and united as one (we may never even get there) but there is progress here. The hateful anti-American comments Rev. Wright spouted out of his trap is reason why we all still can't get along. He fills little minds with this garbage, and soon, we will have many of these types of pastors spreading the filth of humanity. If Obama wants to gain back America's trust, he should cut off all ties to the Rev. and issue a formal appology as if he were there at those sermons. And if Rev. Wright hates America so much, he should pack his bags and move out. Now that he's retired, I hear that Al Queda is still hiring. He should fit in just fine there with those dehumanized outcasts. And he was in the Marines???? For shame!

  • Anita - 18 years ago

There is plenty more about Obama that is just as scary as this paster. I;ve found a lot by googling Michele Obama.

  • Dave C. - 18 years ago

This is unreal!!! First off, Obama who attended that church for 20+ years and all of a sudden this is the first time he heard such comments from his own pastor is as believeable as me trying to claim that after listening to Rush Limbaugh 10+ years this is the first time I heard him ridicule politicians. Obama choses not to render due respect to the flag and his wife comments for the first time in 26 years she is proud to be an American? They learned that hatred from someone. And look at his association with William Ayres of the terrorist group Weather Underground, when we are in the midst of a war against terrorists. As a member of the military any one of us would get kicked out, even court martialed, for having these kind of racist and terrorist associations and he wants to be the Commander-in-Chief? Surely you jest!

Jeremiah Wright should be kicked out of USA

  • NAN - 18 years ago

COME ON AMERICANS WAKE UP. FIRST HIS WIFE SAYS THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN HER ADULT LIFE SHE IS PROUD OF OUR COUNTRY. NOW HIS PASTOR OR HIS UNCLE SAYS THE MOST HATRED REMARKS ABOUT EVERYONE IN OUR COUNTRY AND OBAMA NEVER HEARD THIS IN 20 YEARS OF MEMBERSHIP IN HIS CHURCH. HE CAN'T BE TRUSTED AND THIS IS WHAT HE HAS LEARNED FROM HIS PASTOR AND NOW IT IS EVEN SAID BY HIS WIFE. WHO IS RACIST NOW? IF HE LOVES AMERICA HE SURE HAS A HELL OF WAY SHOWING IT. DROP OUT OBAMA, AMERICA ESPECIALLY THE FAMILIES OF ALL THE VICTIMS OF 911 AND OUR WONDERFUL SEVICE MEN AND WOMEN, DON'T NEED YOU.

Jeremiah Wright should be kicked out of USA

  • Emma - 18 years ago

I feel really bad for Obama. I do say this is only a witch hunt especially by Shawn Hannity with Fox. Obama cannot be held accountable for what his pastor preaches from his pulpit. Rev. Wright grew up during a time when the white man lynched black men, raped black women and sold their children off as slaves. Black people have not forgotten that. If you have never walked in a black man's shoes you don't know what they have been through or what their parents went through in this very prejudice country. Most older black people have not forgetten that and never will. Obama is from a new generation. He is forgiving and this is why he wants to bring change to this country. He cannot be blamed for his pastor's beliefs. There will always be prejudice in this country especially when narrow minded people like the Shawn's of the world continue to add fuel to the fire.

  • Marian - 18 years ago

I'm sick and tired of hearing Blacks blame White America for slavery, and aids, and their poverty, and everything else that's wrong with their race. They never mention that it was their own people that caught them and sold them to the slave traders, they never mention that it is their own moral weakness that has spread aids in their community, it is their own ignorance that has caused their poverty, by having fifteen kids, when they could only afford to care for one or two. What they need to do is start taking responsibility for their own actions. They have done more to cause their situation than anyone else or anything else.

  • Cacheman - 18 years ago

Did you notice in the clips background , the congregation was encourageing Wreight. Looks like tucoc congregation was agreeing with the Rev...I have gone to church all my life and have always been taught to love everyone and everyone is equal..
Think about the kids hearing that trash they will grow up hating whites....That preacher needs to be arrested for hate speech...

  • Phil - 18 years ago

Obama went to the church to hear sermons about spiritual matters and about the bible. He is not responsible for the political views of the pastor who may let his political view seep into his message occaisionaly. If I had to quit the church I go to because of the political views of my pastor or any pastor, I would have to quit everytime my view did not coincide with his. Obama is not responsible for the political views of his pastor just as I am not responsibvle for some of the stupid things my president and other presidents have said or done although he is or was the leader of my country.

  • Barbara Carpenter - 18 years ago

My parents always told my siblings and I that "you are known by the company you keep." As stated by some of the other commentors, I don't buy for one second that Mr. Obama had no inkling that his pastor believes and preaches this way from the pulpit! He claims that Mr. Wright is "like an uncle to him." As such, I am certain that the Obamas have most likely shared meals, etc. with the Wrights - which is a much more intimate setting than merely attending church - and, being that Mr. Wright believes ardently in what he preaches, how could his views not be discussed in a setting such as that? I believe Mr. Obama knows exactly what his pastor preaches and, secretly, shares those same views. How could he not? He has attended this same church for 20 years! Obama is a dangerous man to be seeking the highest position of authority in our Great Nation! Because of just this one very controversial subject, I would never even consider voting for him!

  • John - 18 years ago

20years and obama has only heard one or two comments from his pastor and mentor. i was born at night but not last night. i can't wait till the evidence surfaces that he was at some of those hate speeches. what did the pastor do give obama an advance copy every sermon so he would know when not to attend church. at least with the clintons you know where they stand.

  • John D. Brenner - 18 years ago

I think that BHO does not have the depth or experience to withstand the comments of MR.WRIGHT. I refer to him as MR. since there is not a true man that does the work of God that would ever spew the hate that this man has in his sermons.
I will out and out admit that I am a registered Republican but I am an American first and what I heard from this guy goes against everything American and that is why I feel this will destroy the BHO campaign.
    I could be wrong.

  • Margaret Taylor - 18 years ago

I find it odd that all the comments are blashing Barack. Just goes to show people true color coming out. It is a know fact that any and every thing Barack do or has done or anything that America think he has done will be blashed. It is strange that since the media could not firmly tie him to the Muslim Faith, now they have went after his Christian faith. There are lot of pastors that discuss the same things that Wright discuss and no media is interest in them. We need to get into things that really matter, such as Crime in America, the war that killing all of our young kids, the fact that gas is now at $4.00 a gallon and how people are losing their home each day.I am so sick all the negative things that are reported, when are we going ro hear about the postive things.

  • Dee Timps - 18 years ago

All I can say is thank God this came out now ... it's a blessing in disguise ... Obama has united himself, along with his family for 20 years with a pastor who in my opinion is malevolent, and creepy. His words are of pure evil. He is racially prejudiced. Anyone that is a devotee of this sort of man is more crazier than he … and has been brainwashed by the pastors sinful words. Obama will never be able to walk away from a troubled man such as the pastor himself, and for this Obama cannot be the President of America.

  • Jack White - 18 years ago

Shame on you OBAMA to turn and run from a pastor who you held close to your heart. A pastor who married you and your wife. A pastor who preached to your children and now he is not the man you want in your life because of his views. He even help name your book. So, when the media comes down on you it is time to run away. Now you want to my president? What joke you are and Rev. Moss III is any different from your previous pastor. YOU ARE A REDCOAT WHEN THE TIMES GET ROUGH AND I SEE RACISM AND THE HATRED OF AMERICA IS WELL AND ALIVE IN YOUR CHURCH AND NB YOUR LIFE.

  • Richard Davis - 18 years ago

Following his interview with Major, I do not for a minute believe Obama's statement that he was not in attendance during ANY of the controversial rants from pastor Wright.

  • Weldon Idol - 18 years ago

BHO went to Harvard and is not perceptive enough to realize that his reverend for twenty years is not a "hateful racist"! Give me a break! How could anyone believe that he sat in the church for hundreds of sermons and never hear Reverend Wright preach "hate sermons" against whites and America.

  • Maureen McCarroll - 18 years ago

Very little is known of BHO and I don't buy his claims of ignorance of his pastor's sermons of hate. The liberal media may protect him all they want, but he can't forever hide behind them. I'm fearful of the 'change' he plans for our great country! He would never get my vote.

  • Ellen - 18 years ago

I was favoring Obama over Hilary, but NOT now. Only an idiot could know some one for 20 years and not know what he was preaching!

  • Beverly - 18 years ago

When are people like "Rev." Wright going to get over the past? And where is the "love your enemies" message? As a minster's wife, I'm embarrassed to hear the hate coming out of someone's mouth who claims to know Jesus.

I am a white female who grew up as a missionary kid in a country under a dictator in South America (THANK YOU all you wonderful military people who released the Iraqi people from the horrors of living under a dictator!). My father was beaten, shot at, tortured, and put in jail more than 20 times. We never knew if he was coming home alive or not. As little kids, my sibblings and I were urinated upon by grown men as our father would be preaching. Numerous times we would be confronted with police or soldiers with guns pointed at us. Often they would force us to take them where they wanted to go. We suffered racism and persecution for our faith, but also for our race--we were white.

However, the same Jesus that Rev. Wright claims to know commands us NOT TO HOLD ANGER AND HATRED IN OUR HEARTS TOWARDS THOSE WHO DO US WRONG. I love the people of the country I grew up in. I don't blame a whole race/country of people for what a few men did to us. Judge not, that you be not judged.

Let the past be the past. I have American Indians in my ancestry that suffered the horrible "Trail of Tears." What good does it do me to blame the people of today for what was done in the past? What the African Americans suffered at the hands of their own brothers in Africa and then under the cruel Anglos in America is incomprehensable. God will judge them for what they did. But, why do some Black Americans feel that they must judge all Anglos as being evil? I have not suffered the horrific things that my black brothers and sisters have experienced, and we must speak out loudly we we see injustice to anyone--regardless of race--but we also MUST go beyond the past in order to have a future.

Voting for Obama was never a choice for me, due to my pro-life commitment. But, I'm relieved to see that this is being exposed. In spite of what Obama just said in his interview, you cannot be a member of a church for 20 years and not know what is being said--even if you are not there in person. People talk!

You are known by the friends you keep. Obama is a little too close to the Rev. not to have been influenced by his poison.

God, please give us godly men and women to lead this great country.

  • Rob - 18 years ago

There is no place in America for racism, be it black, white, hispanic. ect.. For a US senator, running for president to be associated with pastor Wright and not know what the pastor stands for is a farce. There is no way that senator Obama should be allowed to be president. The President of the United States of America needs to be above reproach in all aspects. There is no place for racism in America's future. We can not change the past, but we can go forward. Blanket change without a plan will not benefit anybody!!!!!!!!!

  • sharon (don't believe a word he said) - 18 years ago

Well the cats out of the bag... All it took was time before his true colors came through. Its to bad it came out so late into the campaign. Maybe its not too late for Clinton after all. After twenty years he must know exactly what this pastor stands for because he is a smart man not a dummy. His wife saying what she did about this being the first time in her adult life that she is proud of this country says it all! Is this what she is teaching her girls? I hope this ends his run for the white house. He is not fit to run this great country.... Shame on him and his wife...Thanks for the chance to give you my opinion.. Thanks Greta for letting me state my view... Sharon

Why doesn't he resign tonight from that so called church? He is in favor of what they say and believe. Shame on America and anyone who would stand up for him after hearing this.
Instead of MOVE ON.ORG is should be MOVE ON. HUSSEIN OBAMA.

  • Bobbye Humphrey - 18 years ago

I have said from the very beggining that there was something wrong with BHO. He came on the scene like a Mickael Jackson, all races were treating him like the next coming of the lord. His speaches had no substance but he was drawing crowds like people were coming to see Christ arise again.

BHO is lying when he said he had never hear words like this before from his minister. His was a member for 20 years...give me a break. He even looks straight in the cameras and lies to you.

His wife Michelle said she has only been proud be an American in the last two years.

We should get rid of him as soon as possible...the people should wake up and show that you are not as stupid as they have been in the last eight months.

  • Barbara - 18 years ago

It is totally unbelievable to me that Sen. Obama has never known this pastors views. The Senator in his first book, expressed the same disdain for America. It is now apparent how Mrs. Obama has come to the opinions she voiced recently during her campaign speaking. Now the pastor is retiring? Curious timing.

  • joe anna - 18 years ago

Mr. Obama has denounced/rejected Mr. Wright. We don't have tapes of the yesteryears but I can assure you that the White churches preached about slavery and how to hang and burned and raped our Black women. We stayed under those kind of conditions for years and years but do we carry that in our present day? We have whites and blacks with the yesteryears mentality even tho we might not want to admit it especailly if we are in thel ime light, but do all of us think like that..NO.. EXTEME conditions were applied to the Black race by the Whites dating back to the 1600's. I wonder what some of the people that are talking on different talk shows would say if we had in our possession tapes of those days in slavery. So let us get off the "race" issue because the White race would never win on this issue especially since they were the ones started this years and years.......................

    VOTE MCCAIN

  • marianr - 18 years ago

    Greta,
It doesn't matter that Obama denounces his minister, he has said that he found his faith at this church, and has gone here for twenty years. You can't be affilliated with a church for twenty years and not be in tune to what is being said, unless obama slept through all Rev Wrights sermons.
Have you ever heard Obama say "GOD BLESS AMERICA" ? Or I Love America? I haven't! It came across Loud and clear from Michelle Obama though about how she feels about America!!
I can't imagine after seeing all this that he could or would be a President for ALL People!!
Have you looked at the Church web site? It is all about black and not about all people. Where I come from, our Church believes in all People.

I find Rev. Wright's remarks sickening. When will prejudice ever disappear from our society. It is not all whites against blacks. I cannot believe that Obama has not heard any of this in his 20 years in that church. I do not plan on voting for him and had planned on voting for Sen. Clinton if she won the nomination. So that only leaves not voting at all or voting for Sen. McCain. Not a very good election year.

  • RON - 18 years ago

TO USE AN OLD CLICHE, "YOU ARE THE COMPANY YOU KEEP"...SEN. OBAMA MAINTAINED RELIGIOUS COMPANY WITH REV. WRIGHT FOR 20 YEARS. REV. WRIGHT'S RHETORIC (PHILOSOPHY) MUST HAVE APPEALED TO SEN. OBAMA OR ELSE HE WOULD NOT HAVE MAINTAINED FINANCIAL & MORAL SUPPORT FOR TWO DECADES.

God help America with people like Obama running for the highest office in the land.

  • vicki - 18 years ago

If a pastor said from the pulpit ONE time the horrendous, violent, hateful, Unbiblical, language that I have heard tonight, that would of been more than enough to bring the pastors beliefs and positions into question. You can not tell me that Senator Obama was not aware of this left wing, unchristian attitude. Obviously he aligned himself with this position. No wonder Obama didn't want Americans to truly know him.. This is very scary for our country!

  • marlene - 18 years ago

After everything that I have heard regarding this issue and after seeing obama's explanation on H & C w/Major Garrett...I think Obama is lieing about this whole thing. I no longer give him the benefit of doubt...I hope this takes him down, as it should.

The Pastor has clearly made some serrious statements. But it is alos clear that Baraka Obama has distanced himself from these statements. What is clearly troubling is some people who speak like all the friends they have are PURE and without SIN and will to quote HANITY 'cannot associate with ANY EVIL PERSON IN ANY WAY..." I used to know a friend of mine who had a dad who cheated on the wife,he was an alcoholic and said some horriable things. One day i asked my friend how she deals with it and she said " some times he really says some great things, thats is what i pick and leave the rest" Well Hanity i think you need to tell us what to do with politicians whose wives have been addicted to drugs,or whose daughters are gay or whose husbads cheated on them and said horriable things about other races. Why dont you tell us what to do with the people whose pastors cheat on them for years even with other men.Hanity would you take your kinds there.Oh no you only attend pure church.I guess after these people find out about the behaviour of the pastors, they should never go to church!!You need to tell us which part of pure land we need to live so that we dont hear or see the horriable things that happen in this world. What i know will stand is this that a man/woman may not agree with all his/here friend says, but there is no pure place that we can run and hide in this world. My friend be careful and remove the log in your eye so you can see the little spark in your friend eye.

I have never trusted this slick talking Obama. Any man that has been in church to the same Minister for twenty years and thinks of him as an Uncle and has not realized that he is a White racist is NUTS. I pray to God that he never enters the door at the White House. God help us if he does. His statement to Fox News tonite is TOO LITTLE AND TOO LATE. He can thank Jeremiah Wright for costing him the nomination.

  • Bob - 18 years ago

    Greta,

Suggestion: Get Oprah on your show ASAP and get her thoughts on Obama now. I'd be very interested to hear her view of him and her endorsement of his presidential bid now that Rev. Wrights despicable hate-filled anti-American comments have come out.

  • Glenys - 18 years ago

This is so scary!!. I do hope this sinks his run for the office of President. For him to get this close before we find that he is under the influence of someone so full of hate is terrifying. God help this country if this can happen in such an open and enlightened era.

  • Tim - 18 years ago

while some of the pastors comments are off base, is it any surprise that some black people harbor resentment towards our country that perpetrated slavery, segregation, jim crow, lynching, rosewood, and numerous other undocumented but vicious crimes carried out by everyone from elected officials and law enforcement to the everyday man...

  • jane - 18 years ago

Your station has no appreciation of or dedication to truth. This story is not important except to you in your quest to destroy Obama's chances of becoming president. I"m so sorry that you seem to know so little about America's history in relationship to black people. Many liberals, like the Clintons' like to expouse their care and concern for black people, but make certain that the first black candidate is destroyed politically,if needed. They, like many others, like to use black voters for their own political power. Why shouldn't the blacks have this anger? Many people of all colors, damn America everyday. And how about freedom of speech in one's own church? Fox, your ambition is to run America. I am more afraid of you than any BLACK PASTOR as a threat to American ideals. From a white, protestant of English/German/Irish decent & former Republican.

I always go by my gut feeling and my gut feeling was right. There is something too good to be true about Obama. He is a wolf in sheeps clothing. He has too many bad things going on from his past/present. I will not feel safe if Obama becomes President. If he does then God help us all.

  • JL Carroll - 18 years ago

Furthermore we can look back in history where many of pastors have been child molesters, murders, thieves, ex-criminals, etc. Lets not act like just because someone stands behind a pew and has the title "Pastor or Pope" that this makes them SUPER-human! WE are not a perfect people and neither are they! Who are we kidding? Is this the best theyve got on Obama? to hold against him what someoe else said? I do not agree with the pastor especially saying "GD America" at all, and clearly Obama doesn't.

Church is just a building and Obama's christianity and faith are between Him and God. If we are a country that believes in God so strongly then read your Bibles and know that God will take care of the Pastor and his actions. Obama is his own Man. He IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR this pastors "sermon"...period

  • GRJ Sr. - 18 years ago

Pastor Wright's comments are his comments and he has a right to his comments under our precious constitution called "freedom of speech". From a journalistic standpoint, it is a good journalist position to investigate to see if there is any fact to his statements before you call it "hateful rhetoric". Again, you have dropped the journalistic ball. If you do your research, you will find out that this and every society has its good and bad points. It is a pure fool's standpoint to say that American ONLY has its good points. Duhhhhh!!! American has made some major mistakes. Without being too wordy, if you would just investigate to see if Pastor Wright's statements have any factual connotations, maybe you will find out that we have made some major mistakes. By placing the responsibility of Pastor Wright's comments in the lap of presidential candidate Obama is grabbing at straws. Presidential candidate Obama may be the one that can address the sins of our forefathers and keep those sins from being heaped upon the heads of our children.

  • Pat Brister - 18 years ago

Greta, how soon we forget, how about the picture of Obama on the news a few weeks ago, when the national athemn was playing and he did not put his hand over his heart, and he has also stopped wearing the american flag pen, unlike all of the other Senators. Yes I think his pastors remarks will hurt his campaign, like so many people have said, he surley has heard "Rev." Wright those kinds of thing before(in 20 plus years). And howabout the remark his wife made,. Ya'll go ahead and vote for him and see how bad the black and white situation gets. Oh by the wat I am a Dem. Pat is La.

  • Vickie - 18 years ago

I can't believe BMO thinks we believe he didn't know this about his pastor and more importantly, that he probably feels the same. He not only should step down as a presidential candidate, but as Senator. This is scary and sad that people follow someone like Rev Wright, who is filled with so much hatred.

This is absolutely terrifying. I have a young daughter and another baby on the way. The thought of rasining my children under a man who has surrounded himself with hate-filled people for two decades is enough to make me want to move to another country. I love the United States. I am proud to be an American and I want my children to be able to say the same thing. We cannot compare BO's association with this man to a catholic candidate and a pedofile. This is not analogous. Why would anyone try to defend BO on this? the man should no longer hold any office let alone continue to run for president. He doesn't deserve the extreme privilege of serving as Commander in Chief of this great country.

  • Judy Dunn - 18 years ago

Everyone needs to get over themselves. Since when do we decide a president on the church he attends. What happeded to seperation of church and state. I don't see anyone calling into question the church "Ole" Hillary attends. Personally, I don't care. And it doesn't matter what church or who preaches. I'll never base my vote on that. I'm sure there are many god fearing bible thumpers out there who believe everything their pastor says. They're called lambs. And I'm sure there are many more who have come away from a sermon wondering "What was that about?" They're called independent thinkers.

  • Kim M - 18 years ago

I go to church every Sunday ( to a mostly white Protestant Baptist Church in South Carolina). There is no way in the world that my pastor could say anything like Mr. Wright has said and I would not know about it. Even if I missed the Sunday he said it from the pulpit, you can bet someone would let you know what was said. I have NEVER heard a pastor at my church EVER say anything like what this man has said. On Hannity and Colmes Mr. Wright said Sean didn't know anything about the African church. If they preach things like hatred and use profanity from the pulpit, no wonder the black people carry such hatred and lead this country in murders and prisoners (and this information comes from Bill Cosby's book - I think the name is Get With It People). I would not go to a church where a Pastor talked like that and used such filty language - I would be offended, unless I believed in the message. And you can believe something without proclaiming it - you can secretly believe and enjoy someone else getting all the controversey over it. But it will still be there to influence all your decisions. I would never vote for Obama and I don't see how anyone that loves America can. I will be praying to my God - who loves red and yellow black and white - for His candidate to win - and I know it is not Obama.

  • Lynn Williams - 18 years ago

    Hello, Greta:

Thanks for the forum. . .consider this: Mr. B. Hussein Obama has a very interesting past. Most folks will agree, that we are all the sum of the experiences/influences that have impacted our lives (especially after the age of 25).

Consider this: many, many, many, (if I had access to the numbers, I could provide an exact amount/% of the total prison population). . . incarcerated persons in this country are Muslims. This is not new. . .anyone out there remember Cassius Clay?? Oh, sorry, that's Muhammed Ali. . .

This guy (Obama) is uniquely positioned to lead the worst insurrection this country has ever seen. . .i..e. absolute angst on the part of "african americans", muslims, and far leftists. . .we all know that the U.S. is incapable of fending off anarchy. We are VERY close!! This would make the French Revolution look like a picnic!!!! Wake up folks!! Do we really want the proverbial fox to rise to 'watcher/leader' of the hen house????

Last but not least, the Constitution of the United States of America charges a federal government with 2 jobs. . .only 2!! Protect the Country from outside threats (oops, 9/11, etc) AND keep peace within the borders so that ALL can pursue Life, Liberty, and Happyness (Will Smith is a GREAT actor!).

Sooooo, why are the Feds in every area of our lives.. . .because WE LET THEM!!!!! So Folks, wake up. .vote. . .and get a grip on this insanity before it becomes a reality. I never worried when they came for one group, then another (I just didn't want to get involved) and that was great until THEY CAME FOR ME!!!!

With all of the back-slapping and cheering going on when Rev. Wright is saying all of those reprehesible things, there is NO way that the sort of sermon content that has been going around the past few days are merely brief moments where he had taken an off-road from where he usually took during his messages. The words he says are shocking, but not to the congregation of his church. They are obviously used to hearing that sort of inflammatory speech in that church, and it is obvious to me that it is spoken there often. For Barack Obama to say that he had NEVER heard it, he is either lying or he has never actually frequented Rev. Wright's church as he has said, and is lying about THAT.

The shocking thing to me about this is how Mr. Obama has subjected his family to the venom that has been spewed at them for the past 20 years. I can't imagine allowing my family to be poisoned by the rhetoric that comes from this pastor, and it has probably damaged them emotionally and spiritually. Mr. Obama has most certainly shown poor judgement the past 20 years in his association with this terrible church.

  • K GRIFFIN - 18 years ago

I've been wondering when the news media would "vet" this guy. I heard about the preacher during the SC Primary and read a lot of blogs and forums of people that were aware of Obama's Church & Pastor, as well as their disturbing mission statement. I was appalled but couldn't figure out why no one was mentioning it in the media. I think now Michelle's comment makes sense. Obama is running on judgment...this is a huge example of why we must question Obama's judgment. He has been attending Wright's church for 20 years!! All of that hateful preaching has got to have had an effect upon his morals, views, and values!

If I had ever visited a church like that and heard one of those messages, I would have walked out...immediately! Wright hates white people and now I'm really wonder about the heart of Barack and Michelle. Can you imagine taking your young daughters to a church that spews that kind of hate and racism?

Obama. A man who would be president has listened to the rantings of this maniac for 20 years and you can't tell me that kind of language is not used on a regular basis...did you see the crowd "eat it up". I have never heard any minister use the kind of language this man used. And for Obama to make a inadequate statement comparing this fool to an "old uncle in a family." What an utterly stupid thing to say! A person's uncle is not their spiritual advisor! But a person's pastor/preacher certainly is!! How could he just sit there, week after week, and take in Wright's hateful words for 20 years and not have it severely affect his worldview and then put him as an Spiritual Advisor on his campaign...pretty much tells me EVERYTHING I need to know about Obama.

  • Christine Mills - 18 years ago

Greta, I pray that this attack on Sen Obama's Pastor does not continue to divide this country. Greta, the church is our life line of stability, can't you smell the hatred of the America of the 1950's, the 1960's, the 1970's, the 1980's, the 1990's, and now the 21st century news media that fuels the fire against a Black Man who is surpassing a White Woman in a Race for the Highest Office in this Country. Fear has gripped the Hearts of Loving Christians all over this World. God is going to decide this election. Not a mortal Man or Woman.
Greta, I have always respected your fair and unbiased reporting. Please renew my trust in your reporting. God Help Us All. Chris, Dallas Texas

OHB was a member for 20 years of a church he did not know their stand on race relations? NOT POSSIBLE!!!

Please start a movement to have OHB resign from the race because he is a lyer and very receist or if he did not know the stand of his pastor HE IS TO STUBID to be the president of this GREAT NATION!

  • Larry Nickels - 18 years ago

Regarding Pastor Wright - Isn't part of being a tax exempt church require that you NOT discuss politics on the pulpit? Why isn't this man and his church prosicuted for doing just that?
BHO's association with this Pastor and his preachings should disqualify him from being a presidential candidate. Also it's important for the entire news media to expose the views that BHO and his associates have for our country. It seems to me BHO cannot be on both sides of the fence on these issues.

  • loren denny - 18 years ago

Obama is a liar, he has been a member of that church for over twenty years, I am sure he heard the 911 comments voiced by his preacher. It is little wonder that he voted no on the Iraq war. I do not want a liar as Commander of our military.

  • DP - 18 years ago

This is not something that will go away primarily due to the nature of what the media is putting out in front of us. Is there are double standard here? I think in many ways there is if one were to look at John McCain religious practices. Having said this is not an excuse for the rhetoric espoused by the leader of BO's church of which he has been a member for the past twenty years. I do find it hard to believe there could be a lack of knowledge of Pastor Wright's position and comments made during services and at the other events he was a speaker. Did Pastor Wright cross the line? Certainly and I personally would have found another source of spiritual nurturing for my family. I do believe there are underpinnings we are not seeing that have a positive meaning specifically for the African American (Black) community that persons of that persuasion do not understand. Positive in the way of identifying and understanding the plight of the Blacks in the United States where I think Pastor Wright was trying to bring to the forefront and empower the members of his congregation as well as educate the youth to strive for and believe they could achieve. The manner in which his messages have evolved into distasteful and hateful sermons causes me much worry. I do believe there are positinve and good works the church has done. I would like to believe these would be recognized. Barack's relationship with the church and Pastor Wright may be long standing, but does not necessarily mean he (Barack) approves and agrees with the pastor's sentiments. To understand the rationale for one's participation in church or other organizations is a personal thing. We pick out the good. Discuss our disfavor about the bad and hope change can come about. I believe Senator Obama has tried to do this. This is a volatile situation for Senator Obama and I am not sure that this will be able to be cleared up where we know who he really is and what his values are. I would hope we can get beyond the book's cover and judgements. Senator Obama has an uphill battle. I wish this was not the case. It's time for the 'real' Senator Barack Obama would stand up.

  • Kay - 18 years ago

By there fruits they will be known. Have so many people heard only what they have wanted to hear? Now the blind can see and the deaf can hear so they need to stop being sheep following to the slaughter. Do you really believe anyone can sit under someone that is called a Pastor (teacher) and not take the words to heart? When a Pastor stands before the Church that BELONGS TO JESUS CHRIST and asks mankind to "DAMN AMERICA" what do you think will happen to the sheep that are following? Father forgive them for they know not what they do. Father lay not this sin to their charge.

  • Bruce Gordon - 18 years ago

Greta, I agree with others that have said, how can you not know that a person you know personally, and as your spiritual leader views life and America the way that his pastor does. I think we are starting to see a little bit of who Mr. Obama really is! We do not need this type of leader.

I wonder, when "pastor" Wright's knees bow before the Lord, (as the Bible says every knee will bow before the Lord), will the words Wright has ranted and the hate he has shown feel right to him? Will he realize that he is bowing before the One who truly knows our hearts and all things. Will he feel that he has represented Jesus here and now to the people that have followed him?

  • Teri - 18 years ago

Sen Obama says Rev Wright is an angry black man from the sixties. Unfortunately he is passing on his hate to the new generation of black men. If this man is what these young men have to look up to no wonder there is still so much hate and racism in the black community.

  • Randle - 18 years ago

Prior to running for any political office, you always have to take account of your life and consider what might come out. I think MLK gained a lot of respect from all Americans. Obama was also going in this direction. I really like Obama, and it is sad to see news like this come out.

Many years ago, I lived in an air force dormitory. One friday night a group of African American men broke out a boom box and put on a tape of Rev Farakhan. Until that moment, I never realized people like him existed. His remarks were very dividing and inflammatory. It was evident by the behavior of the youth listening to the tape. I was very cautious from that point on knowing how many of the group that night truly believed.

Its sad. MLK did so much for race relations, and there has been so much progress. Now we have people driving fancy cars, livin in nice homes, wearin suits, with plenty to eat, cursing what a bad place America is.

and here I thought we were already seeing MLKs dream come true.

I blame the liberal agenda for all this.

    Hi Greta,

I think that it is an insult to my intelligence for Senator Obama to think that I would believe that after knowing Rev. Wright for 20 years, working along side him helping the poor and even having the Reverand preside over his wedding and baptism of his two children that he did not know what type of man this is and what his true beliefs were.

When Senator Obama replied to Major Garrett during the interview, it reminded me of an old Honeymooners show where Ralph Kramden replies "Hamena Hamena Hamena"!

    PS Love your show!
