How serious is the news about Senator Obama and Rev Jeremiah Wright, Jr?

This entire situation with Obama is frighening to me! I fear that if he does not win the nomination (or the Presidency) there will be an uproar of violence and rioting within the black community. After watching his "spiritual advisor" go through the anti-white, anti-American tirades that he calls "sermons," I am further convinced that the racism on both side will rise to a dangerous level. The sad truth is that there are probably many more Rev. Wrights out there preaching separatism and hatred on both sides. These people are drawing deep lines in the sand. Either way, we are due for tumultuous times, whether Obama wins or not.

Why are churches segregated? There are many religious places that would not let the obama family join, for instance, Jimmy Carters' church let (1) Black family join.I wonder why. I know you know many more.

  • charles mc millian - 18 years ago

if you believe.mr burack hussien obama didnt know what this church was all about after one year or twenty years . your a complete idiot and racist anti american yourself,

  • Jane - 18 years ago

THE SAD PART OF THIS IS THAT BEFORE THIS HAPPENED WITH THE MINISTER YOU HAD SOME OF THESE RACISTS ON THE BLOGS CALLING BARACK A N AND SAYING THINGS THAT WERE NOT VERY NICE.

WHAT MAKES THEM ANY DIFFERENT. I CAN'T STAND REDNECKS AND I AM WHITE.

This is a serious issue and i don't believe it can or should go away. I don't believe he should be a senator let alone the President of our nation. America is a melting pot of culture and we are dangerously devided against ourselves because of race and gender issues and its because of people like Obamas pastor who spread lies and hate. I could never vote for him now. He can say what He wants actions speek louder than words and twenty years of actions is a lifetime in My eyes. You can see for yourself in his wife and her Hatred for America. This is scary!!!

I am deeply saddened that the first viable African American candidate for President of the United States of America has been good friends with a racist Pastor who married him and Michelle and baptized his two daughters - which tells me that Obama had to have been present for some of the outbursts like the ones shown tonight by Pastor Wright which have been going on for years.
Obama is not a good liar, how could he possibly " not have known about any of these remarks" ? I am equally as sad about Obama's lying.

I really have been waiting for our country to wake up and smell the retoric
coming from BHO. I am a Hilary supporter and a christian. If I heard my
minister say the horrible things coming from Wrights lips I would have walked
out of the church and never returned. I find it hard to believe that in 20 years
BHO never heard Wright make anti-white statements and hate filled statements. The saddest part is that he (Wright) has the audacity to call himself a man of God. My God would not condone such hatred against any
race. We are Americans and we are proud to say God Bless America. My
son is in Iraq fighting for our country and we are proud of him. I want a
commander-in-chief that is not afraid to support the military and who will
not create more wars and more hate. My family will pray for BHO and Rev.
Wright and their congregation. I am sad that Michelle O. is not proud to be
an American until now. I am a teacher and I am truly a patriot who's father
fought in WW II and helped free Europe and the Jews from oppression.
I am a democrat who a year ago would have voted for a Clinton/Obama
ticket. I would not vote for Obama now or in the future. I believe that
the nation needs to rise above all the news media and focus on what is good
for America and its people. We have real problems and we need real answers not retoric. God Bless America! Vote for Hilary!

Surely in the amount of years BHO has been a member of this church, if he attended fairly regularly, or listened to the news, he would have known what this man was preaching he would have left this church. BHO doesn't look like an ostrich with his head in the sand. He is sure fast to condemn anyone else that brings up the race card. We don't need BHO for president.

  • Thom - 18 years ago

I think Baraka Hussein should resign from being a Senator and forget about being a candidate for President. He definitely is a racist.

  • Kathy - 18 years ago

I believe if all of this information had come to light sooner, the results of the primaries held to date would be vastly different!! He is not who who pretends to be. We now know who has helped form his values and beliefs for over 20 years! The hate the Reverand spews isn't any different then the hate directed at America from the terrorists!

I am white woman in my late 30s, and I am a strong Obama supporter. I have to say that the videos regarding Wright don't shake that support at all. What many white people seem to forget is that many black people, especially from Rev. Wright's generation and before have the views they do because they have been treated like second class citizens. I believe that Mr. Obama hopes that he can have an affect on those views. I believe that he probably understands why the reverend has the views he does because he probably has a good understand of how he may have been treated over his life. However, I also believe that he can understand them and not feel the same way, that he can believe that black Americans can get beyond those views. Unless we can stop condemning black Americans for being upset and resentful of how they have been treated, then we will never be able to move past those issues. And unless we can stop condemning them for those feelings, then we certainly can't expect them to change how they feel about white people. We expect them to have nothing negative to say about white people, in SPITE of the fact that in most cases, they are STILL treated as second class citizens, or at the very least they are treated with less consideration and equality.

As long as we continue to feel so outraged by blacks feeling "mistreated" and upset, rather than recognizing that this is actually the case and having some understanding for why they feel that way, we are only adding to the problem and inhibiting our ability to move forward. To me, that is simply white people blaming black people for being upset at how we have treated them. That is what is wrong with this country, and black people will continue to feel angry and separate until we can change how we view these issues.

White Americans a paranoid of black Americans' anger towards us for how we have treated them. That paranoia is a big part of my problem in my belief. I believe Barack Obama understands these things, and what these challenges are, and that he isn't just an undercover "black supremist" as many seem to feel he must be. I believe he is trying to challenge how white American views black Americans - as well as how Black American views white Americans - by doing his best to be a viable candidate for president of the USA, not a black candidate that has not really been taken seriously in the past. Personally, I support his candidacy 100% and feel that condemning him for the reverends comments is white America continuing down the same path of denial that blacks ARE treated differently. We seem to want that issue to be completely ignored and not talked about, and not held against us. How can we move past race when we condemn people who do not ignore it and who are upset by the inequality?

  • Merrilln - 18 years ago

I don't believe Obama. I think that he is a politician just like Sean Hannity said Obama is going to say what ever he needs to say to protect himself from the fall out. This is just another in a growing list of dangerous philosophies being associated with Obama, i.e. Chavez Guivarra (sp?). I think the Democratic candidates are equally dangerous.

  • Real - 18 years ago

He who is without SIN let him cast the first stone!!! How quickly we forget our own sins and want to judge other. He who judge shall be judged. This is so weird to watch how we attempt to draw conclusion about someones faith, character and capability to lead based upon who their pastor is - is it because we cannot find anything else to talk about the person who is running? I don't know anyone that I agree 100% with what they say and do so what are we really debating here?
Is it possible that some of what the minister is saying is true and that we may not agree with or approve of the way he expressed himself but after all he has the right to express his views as a American citizen. It is a touchy situation for any American to have to reflect upon WHAT PART OF WHAT HE SAID IS TRUE? Racism hurts regardless of who is saying or doing it - it would be one thing if you were having a debate about what the minister said that was true from a black perspective however no one addressed that reality vs. trying to make what he said be construed as something that Senator Obama stands by or said or whatever because not one of you could defend 100% of what has been said from the pulpit that you face each Sunday -- how often have you stepped to your Pastor to tell him you disagreed with what he said, how he said it and oh by the way Pastor I won't be back Sunday. .

This is crazy how these commentators attept to make an issue from one slanted viewpoint when reality is there are two sides to every story - right/wrong - black/white -perspective/experience - someone's own truth.. Power still is where it is just as the man said ...nothing has changed about that and the reality is America does not want to deal with the truth RACISM IS ALIVE AND WELL and blacks still have to deal with the poor treatment of white america.

Which one of us have not said or have not heard evil words spoken from the mouths of folks in our lives? Because I hear something does that make me like whoever is saying something crazy? If your spouse/ mother says evil and outlandish things - do you distance yourself from them? What if your friends are saying and doing crazy things do you repudiate them too? One way to addess these types of issues is to try to ask questions to understand why someone is saying what they say. Once you hear why they feel that way you can then and only then be able to share information that might change their hearts, minds and attittudes. You tell folks you disagree with what they are saying and you try to live your life so that they see Christ in you and learn how to walk in LOVE which can change the racist attitudes we see daily in our world and nation.

I've been wondering when the news media would "vet" this guy. I heard about the preacher during the SC Primary and read a lot of blogs and forums of people that were aware of Obama's Church & Pastor, as well as their disturbing mission statement. I was appalled but couldn't figure out why no one was mentioning it in the media. I think now Michelle's comment makes sense. Obama is running on judgment...this is a huge example of why we must question Obama's judgment. He has been attending Wright's church for 20 years!! All of that hateful preaching has got to have had an effect upon his morals, views, and values!

If I had ever visited a church like that and heard one of those messages, I would have walked out...immediately! Wright hates white people and now I'm really wonder about the heart of Barack and Michelle. Can you imagine taking your young daughters to a church that spews that kind of hate and racism?

Obama. A man who would be president has listened to the rantings of this maniac for 20 years and you can't tell me that kind of language is not used on a regular basis...did you see the crowd "eat it up". I have never heard any minister use the kind of language this man used. And for Obama to make a inadequate statement comparing this fool to an "old uncle in a family." What an utterly stupid thing to say! A person's uncle is not their spiritual advisor! But a person's pastor/preacher certainly is!! How could he just sit there, week after week, and take in Wright's hateful words for 20 years and not have it severely affect his worldview and then put him as an Spiritual Advisor on his campaign...pretty much tells me EVERYTHING I need to know about Obama.

  • Luvrfreedom - 18 years ago

I think the truth has hit the fan! I would never vote for anyone that was associated with a public figure that uses the words, " God Damn America."

  • tTeta ricardo - 18 years ago

BHO seems to forget that he is also white as well as black, I do not trust him or his promises, the preacher is a racist (he looked like he had some white in him, his wife is no comparison to jacqueline kennedy like someone said, wake up America .

  • Blake - 18 years ago

Obama must think we real Americans are crazy. He is just as racist as his so called Pastor, which the man is not. This man is nothing but another black racist using his platform to spread racism. Thanks to him, we can now make way for John McCain.

  • Clair - 18 years ago

No way could he have gone to this church all these years and not believe in what Wright was preaching.

Obama hasn't heard these types of sermens in the past at Rev. Wright's churuch? BS! There is no way that these are isolated instances of hate and disrepect to America; clearly this is a regular message in Rev. Wright church. Obama has lost a lot of credibility with his comments and associations with the guy. Surely isn't the person I want running this GREAT COUNTRY!!

  • Anita - 18 years ago

Greta, So much for Senator Obama's promise to unite the whole world!

  • janis jobe - 18 years ago

I have been to alot of churches and have never heard, such racise remarks and obama is a fool if he thinks that americans belives that he has never heard him say those things.

  • Kelli Crews - 18 years ago

I am 29 years old & have gone to church all my life. I have never had a preacher talk about race & certainly never preach anti-American. I would get up & leave in the middle of church if my preacher conducted himself in te manner that Wright did. What does this say about Wright's congregation? This is suppose to be a man of God. Marriages & baptisms are meaningful & people usually choose a church/preacher that is special to them. What does this say about Obama. Wright has had these views for years, not just a couple of days. Obama went to his church for 20+ years. Obama must share/agree many of Wright's views. Why else would he have gone to his church? It's not like that was the only church available. I hope American's are paying close attention!

I am 64 years old, a retired police officer and a military veteran! I love this country and for the first time in my life, I have a fear, that if this man is elected president, it will be the end of the United States of America as we know it! The United states is not a perfect country and there are many problems that need to be addressed and corrected, but electing this man as president is not the answer.
It is my opinion that there is an underlying agenda, endorsed by Barrack Obama as evidenced by his pastor and mentor Jeremiah Wright! I feel that if elected Senator Obama will vigorously pursue that agenda of racism, hatred and separatism!
Do we dare risk, even the slightest chance that this will come to pass, no I think not!

  • Burt-Georgia - 18 years ago

Its about time we start playing hardball with these Left Wing Libs. If they hate AMERICA so much then go to Mexico, China, Cuba or any other 3rd world country. See if they can protest. We are in deeeeep trouble!!!!

  • R D W - 18 years ago

I can not believe the media is finally going to look at his background. As a life long democrat I would vote McCane first. Obama will divide this country. Give me Hillary !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Amy Russo - 18 years ago

How can any true Americans possibly still believe Obama would be good for America? Quite honestly, between the statements from Obama, his wife, and his minister, just the thought of that man becoming our leader terrifies me! I love this country and can't stand people who call themselves Americans (or just live here) and want to bash the country or government. Obviously Obama does agree with his pastors sentiments and statements or he wouldn't have been a member of the congregation, thought of the pastor as an "uncle", or had him on his advisory board. He's a liar & got off way too easy in the interview!

  • Paul Hagen - 18 years ago

A lifelong Democrat just scratched a name off the list.
If a caucasian were to do this and then present that lame excuse, tho others would have held his feet to the flames! Like Al Sharpton types, etc.
They would accept NO excuse whatsoever. What's good for the goose....
and NO my family had nothing to do with slavery- I wish they would give that one up.

  • fara - 18 years ago

I believe Senaator Obama, and am really shocked by what has been written here. There is real hatred in America, just read all these comments for real proof. Pastor Wright's diatribe has really brought out the worse of America. These comments are more indicative of hatred than the Pastor's. Remember he has lived through the hatred when it was legal in the South-JimCrow laws etc. So at least we can say he has some right to rant and rave. I would, if I had to live through the times when it would be a crime for a black person to use a white only bathroom. We should at least try to understand why this man has made these comments - it's because he has lived through abject prejudices in this United States of America. But, what I am now reading is just pure hatred with no credible basis. Shame on these people. Sounds like they would all be happy to pull out their ropes and lynch the Senator, his wife and the Pastor. This is a true "witch-hunt." And just to rile you all up, how about reading this: BARACK OBAMA WILL BE YOUR NEXT PRESIDENT and the irony is, you all will benefit greatly form it.

  • John Ilvento - 18 years ago

That Sen. Obama has associated himself with this man for twenty years speaks volumes

  • Sheila Keebaugh - 18 years ago

This and the Rezko connection has brought Obamas' judgement into the forefront. I can't believe that he has never heard his pastor personally speak such words unless he is sleeping during the message. And as animated as Mr. Wright is I don't think that would be likely. This makes me think that he is weak for not confronting his pastor for his hateful comments or just leave this church. Your church and its doctrine are a part of who you are. It would be very scary to have this man as leader of our great nation. We are a nation of many races and ethnic backgrounds and have come a long way toward tolerance of others beliefs, etc. This sort of thinking will set our country back to the days before Dr. Kings civil rights struggle. I wonder what he would think of Mr. Wrights comments!

  • tTeta ricardo - 18 years ago

As a Democrat, I am sickened by this pastor who has spewed out God's name in vain from the pulpit of God's house, that's if this is really a Christian Church and not just a disguise for the Nation of Islam who is using the past and present hardships of the black community to promote their radical racist agenda? Pastor Wright and Farrakhan's message are very similar. Spewing out hatred such as this man has, is not the Word of God. It's hatred. Realizing this pastor is against the Jews and Israel is very disturbing. How can one call himself a Christian but condemn Israel, knowing how God feels about Israel. Israel is God's land and He gave that land to the Jews. A real Christian knows that. Obama denounces some of this pastors political beliefs but has allowed him still work on his campaign comittee, at least up until today. How convenient to let him go when people get offended. 20 yrs Obama knew this man. He has to know the broader picture. How could he not know. Add this pastor, Farrakhan and Obama's wife, Michelle's, comments and you get a whole picture and it's not pretty. It's quite scary! America should be very very cautious because this man is just a sample of what's to come when the Antichrist comes on scene. Many have been wooed by Obama but this Antichrist will actually deceive many. Obama almost got through, but thankfully the truth comes out before its too late. I am a Hillary supporter but at first, I did want Hillary and Obama to be on the same ticket, but now... there's no way ever that I would vote for this man. If he is on ticket or is the nominee, I will not vote for him. We need balance in America. Extreme right is dangerous as is the extreme left. It's good that both Hillary and McCain are more towards the middle. We need that. It's more fair to all. As far as Obama, up with America, down with him, his pastor and Farrakhan!

  • Shirley - 18 years ago

Since Senator Obama's considers his pastor like an uncle and mentor he has to be aware of his sermons against our own country. This man should not be a senator and certainly can not hold the highest position in our country. I am not a rich white person but I am a good American and I am so offended by the words spoken by Obama's pastor. It it definitely time for Senator Obama to step down from the race for our President or any political position.

  • Jill - 18 years ago

I don't buy it! No way Mr. Obama has never heard any of these "sermons." We are honestly supposed to believe that he hasn't known the views of his pastor and mentor until these last view days? I find it insulting and offensive that a "man of God" would consistantly preach hate and bash America from his pulpit, and even more offensive that Mr. Obama would be a follower of such a man. I also don't buy Mr. Obama's shaky excuses and lack of sincerity - too little, too late. Clearly this is not someone who is fit to lead this nation forward!

  • Lauren - 18 years ago

Many of you are correct, Barack is NOT RESPONSIBLE for what the Rev. says. He is, however, responsible for spending 20 years with that man. He IS RESPONSIBLE for keeping a man like that in his company. He IS RESPONSIBLE for listening to that man speak 100s of times. You can't say that in 20 years he's never heard that man's views. He knows what that man is. So no, he's NOT responsible for what the man says. But he IS responsible for listening.

  • Nancy - 18 years ago

Americans should be better informed. All change isn't good change. I couldn't sit in any assembly one hour much less for 20 years and listen to someone making such ridiculous and foul statements against the country that I love.

Obama is only sorry that the teflon wore off.

  • Erica - 18 years ago

If indeed Obama wasn't in regular attendance during his Pastor's, apparently regular, separatist, and extremely twisted views, then maybe we should question that there were many times he may have not been a regular church attender. He has Christian followers that are convinced he is a strong follower of Christ and his views match theirs. The Bible says in the book of Revelation, "He would rather we be hot or cold or He (Jesus) would spew us out of his mouth." I wonder if we would be following a lukewark, watered-down, so called Christian? I know any person that condones the killing of the innocent unborn definately doesn't have my vote, and to call yourself a Christian and condone this is detestable.

  • Brenda - 18 years ago

Sorry B. Hussein Obama, you blew it when you lied. You never heard any of this hate-filled preaching???? after 20 yrs?????????. You are toast now. You must think the American people are stupid too.

  • irene - 18 years ago

Dear Jehovah God did not create humans to spew such hatred about each other. God help us all if Obama is elected, Obama knowing, full and well, the pastor he supported, held these view points, spoke this awful hatred. I hope the Dear Lord stops this madness, heartbreak and mans inhumanity against man.

  • Antonia - 18 years ago

"Birds of a feather flock together" Spare us. Enough of Obama. He is not electable. An empty suit. Difficult to comprehend that so many true Americans are behind him. If the Democratic party is finished, blame the likes like Kerry & the Kennedy's. God bless & help America!

  • betty - 18 years ago

If those Americans who vote for Obama want a black muslim for President, then they are going to have to live with it.

  • John - 18 years ago

You can't go to this church for 20 years and not know the pastor's thoughts. This Church gave a life time acheivement award to Louis Farican. I find it hard to believe that Obama has never heard any of these kinds of statements in the 20 years he has been there. He was on Obama's spiritual staff and all of a sudden we find out on Fox that he no longer is? I wonder why.

To the 10% that think it is not a big deal and the clueless 1% that are not sure, it is a big deal.

  • Theresa - 18 years ago

The pastor was talking about all of the killing "America" has done...he needs to re-read the Old Testament and the New Testament. God has promoted wars in which total annihilation of the defeated was commanded. And, as far as slavery is concerned, parts of Africa today are enslaving their own people. Where's the condemnation for that, Pastor?

  • Martina Meridian, Mississippi - 18 years ago

I do not think this will affect Obama, and I don't think it should be of any concern! This is something that goes on in many churches across the country, and I don't think many Americans disagree with Rev. Wright's remarks! We do not have a good image abroad, and we have done horrible things to other nations as well as to ourselves that just as everyone answers for their wrong doings we have answered for. The Father does not punish if there is not a reason to punish! I mean come on....who really believes after seeing what happened and how Bush pushed us into this war that he didn't receive warning that this was going to happen? If people are really listening to what Rev. Wright is saying then they must be thinking to themselves (if they are not blinded) that he is not so far off from the truth! Most of the issues that he hit on are things many Americans also African Americans struggle with. I do not believe these comments are so bad, the media is making it out to be. WHAT ABOUT THE MAN MCCAIN CALLED HIS SPIRITUAL GUIDE....HOW IS THAT SO DIFFERENT? Most people seem to forget that Obama grew and was reared by a WHITE WOMAN!!!! I don't think he would have liked the remarks made about Clinton not ever have being a BLACK BOY!!! Besides in the eyes of many African Americans no matter the color of his skin he cannot change that he was reared by a white woman and holds white values. Being a mixed is very hard and you are somewhat stuck in the middle, but most white people don't see it that way. If you have one drop of black you are all black and the white mother or father you love dearly is excluded!!! I think this is key in way Obama wouldn't stand for Rev. Wright's comments had he known they were said at the time they were said. No one seems to understand that!!! Oh I hate Hannity!!!

    GOOOOOOO OBAAAAMMMMMAAA!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sara Johansen - 18 years ago

There is NO way you can attend the same church on even a somewhat regular basis and not be influenced by the Pastor. I, too, believe that "birds of a feather flock together." If Obama was not in concert with the Rev Wright the correct course would be to remove yourself. Wright preaches hate - Jesus preached love and His last command to us was "love God with your whole heart and your neighbor as yourself" -- Jesus did not specify a "color." To blame America for EVERY ill that goes on in this world is ludicrous--if you don't love this country then you are free to leave--anytime - NOT LEAD IT!

  • Linda Hughes - 18 years ago

I don't believe that someone could sit in a pew, look to a pastor for guidance and leadership without knowing that person beliefs and views. Senator Obama had to know his pastor and churches values because the Pastor said himself they haven't changed in years. He futher said the congregation helped choose them (interview with Hannity). Also, since Obama himself said he has known this pastor since 1991 or 1992- how could he attend this church for 20 years if he didn't agree with their views? Which are in the churches doctrine. I also do not believe that this pastor just started preaching these racist comments...because you can see how the congregation agreed and encouraged the comments. If they were new, they would have been surprised...I didn't see anyone in any (several) of the videos showing any kind of dis-belief. I pray that everyone thinks and prays before they vote. I also know that if I don't agree with someone I am not going to fellowship with them for 20 years. We DO need God's blessings on America!!

  • Kay Stroderd - 18 years ago

Obama needs to resign. Whether you go to church every Sunday or not you will have heard his language on the pulpit. Obama has stated he looked up to him and he was a great man. I have said since the beginning he is Muslim at heart and get rid of him as a candidate. He can speech but tonight on H & C he was stuttering and having trouble answering all the questions. Enough is enough and I do not want him as the Leader of the GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. Obama will let Iran run the country and before we know it the USA will be Muslim. I am sorry but I still feel he needs to GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lou southwick - 18 years ago

i believe by getting obama into office as a leader is a way to undermine the usa. and our beliefs and goverment without our even knowing it. we will be taken over without a shot not affilliating with the church any more doesnt mean his mind is changed and i dont believe he didnt know what the preacher believed and said . he would have had to be deaf and dumb not to.

  • TIMOTHY HAYES - 18 years ago

Ther is no way he could be unaware of the rscist snd anti US comments that his minister evpress and believes..he is showing thwt when he is caught,he takes the LIE as his defense..these negative things have been preached and shouted so loudly and enthusiastically by many members of the congregation,.IT is difficult tobelieve Obama did not hear them many times,IF he can not get those ideas out of his mind in a hurry he will be TOTALLY UNFIT TO BE PRESIDENT OR VICE PRESIDENT

  • Alberta Scott - 18 years ago

There are just too many things in his history that make me distrust Barak Obama, and his denial this evening of being aware of the poison that the so called "Rev" Wright has been spewing for 20 years is just inconceivable to me. Do American's really look that stupid?

Senator Obama is cool, well spoken, charismatic, and smooth as a gravy sandwich. He has been "groomed" for years for this moment by...someone. Whether Obama quits the church or not makes no difference now. If he does, everyone will know that the only reason he did so is to protect his candidacy. I've never heard a preacher promote such racism and hate in my entire life. He's certainly not preaching from my Bible! I do know that this man is not a Christian by any stretch of the imagination.

  • Isabella Mc Lean - 18 years ago

I was shocked by the remark god dam America how dare he.I would not want Obama now as a President running the greatest country in the world who attends this church and listens to such hatred.I am from Scotland United Kingdom born and raised and came to this country at age of 21yrs of age.I am now an American citizen and proud to be American.I can only say that my countrymen were slaves to the English, but they do not owe me anything as it was my ancesters they brutalized so why is Obamas minister going on about slavery he was not a slave he thinks America owes him,and if our future President feels the same then he has no right to run our country.Owe i have been called a honky so what i know who i am and what i am Sincerely

finally the truth is out on this decentful man(obama) and his wife. i am so tired of the racism of the black people. they keep the hate going and no matter what is done they will never be happy. hate hate hate the black people use every excuse to keep it going. i thought his message is to move forward. i quess thats for the white people and not for the black people the media has to walk on eggs when talking about obama. i hope the day will come that the black people stand up and quit using excuses for all their problems they hold themselves back not the white person. i am so angry with this and i hope people will not vote for this man.

Ah, come on, lighten up. He never knew, cause I bet he never went to church!!

  • Na - 18 years ago

What is so sad is watching all the people in the church clapping and enjoying the the so-called minister spewing such hate. It shows that people who belong to that church share what is being said. I believe that Mr. Obama and also his wife must share the feelings of the church or they would leave the church.

  • Adrian Freeman - 18 years ago

If I went to KKK meetings once or for 20 years would you believe I was not a hate-filled racist? Do you not recall what Obama's wife said about, "finally being able to be proud to be an American". She learned this from Jeremiah Wright. You can't hang out with a racist without becoming one. You become your friends and mentor. Who you hang out with does matter; unless your are running for president? I doubt he can survive this. I loved his charisma. Many loved Hitler's charisma.

  • Mildred J. - 18 years ago

I am throughly disgusted with this "Preacher" being allowed to fill a pulpit and rant about the terrible country HE lives in. I know if I attended a church that had a pastor that had the mind set of this one, I would walk out in the middle of his "sermon" and never return to such a church as that. I also cannot believe that I would not realize that I was being influenced by a person like that. Senator Obama must have blinders on . If he preacher feels this country is so bad, he probably should return to the country of his ancestors.
Slavery was wrong-but get over it ! We will never be a united country until that happens.

  • Kay Harrington - 18 years ago

Hi Greta, the statements of Obama's pastor are unforgivable and unforgetable to decent Americans, both black and white. The man looks as if he's lost his marbles! If these blacks are so miserable, if they hate America so much, then why heaven's name don't we ship them out of here to anywhere they want to go, to better lives and opportunities elsewhere? Why do they stay here and make it miserable for us. They're free to go; they've squandered their opportunities, and you know what! His pastor and Obama have tons more money than this white gal. What hypocrits and bigots! To think George Bush was castigated for going to Bob Jones University and Trent Lot lost his job over inuendos. I have several black friends who abhore this doctrine of hate, and I'm sick of this stuff! Ship them all out with illegal immigrants and we'll be better off for it. Obama would be the worst President America could have! He is frightening! k.h.

  • Denise Flanagin - 18 years ago

I find it impossible to be as close to someone as Senator Obama claims he is to Pastor Wright and NOT know his views, especially attending his church and considering him his mentor.
Major Garretts questions seemed to make Obama so uncomfortable that the usual great speech maker stumbled on almost every answer.
Obama has lied and has shown himself for what he is...a politician.
I felt he was dangerous before...now I know it!!

  • Linda - 18 years ago

Sen. Obama has denounced what his pastor said. He has not shown in his actions to be the type of individual nor politician to be divisive and disingenuous. If he had these beliefs, they would have surfaced before now. He is loved and respected by his colleagues. When the pastor married him and baptised his children, this type of verbage was not used, I'm sure. I believe that the pastor brought Jesus to Sen. Obama and the pastor's intellectual side kept him there.

Wake up AMERICA ....are we all blind. Why would we put Obama in the most
powerful position in the world when he has associated himself for twenty years with a man that he looks to as an uncle, who hates and preaches against our beloved country and associates himself with terrorists. Obama is

    Greta,
Barack is loosing his grip on the image of being a "prestine, nice guy, who stands for change". Washington politics with this guy is no different than any of the other jerks that collect a pay check on Capital Hill. If Obama didn't know about Rev. Wright's hateful, un-American attitudes, then he's been sleeping during the sermons. You can't attend a church for 17 years which was pastored by the same minister all that time and NOT know about these disgusting, non-Christian attitudes. If he truly didn't know, then he is NOT qualified to be president of the US of A for reasons of stupidity. Just as Hillary is NOT qualified to be president, because "she was duped by President George W. Bush into voting for the war". How could the world's "smartest woman" be fooled by America's "dumbest president"?!!
Barack stands for change......my ass he does. He is politics as usual.

This is this the kind of rascism that keeps our country divided. America gives the opportunity for americans to be free, regardless of the pass. We are in 2008, no 1800. Let us move on. Those in the congregation of that church was certainly being entertained by his prejudices. It spued from his well trained mouth with poison to keep races divided. Please, Senator Obama, how can you say you never heard anything like this when you attended his church. This is the man you listen to. God help our nation.

  • Louise Weaver - 18 years ago

For a man to stand in a pulpit and proclaim Jesus Christ and then spew out words of hate, profanity and violence, the TRUE word of God warns us of wolves in sheep clothing. America wake up and take notice. Also as a student of this mans sermons for twenty years, how can Obama say that this is not his thoughts. He stayed for twenty years for some reason. Do you think just maybe he agrees with this professing pastor? Also being raised a muslim for 18 years is not impressive to me at all. Wolves in sheep clothing! Yes America I pray you will wake up!!!!!

There is no way that Barack Obama went to that church for 20 years and is not influenced in some way by what Reverand Jeremiah Wright had to say. The Reverand seems to me to be more of a racist politician than a preacher. My thoughts regarding going to church is to receive salvation by accepting Jesus in our hearts and continuing to grow spirtually regardless of race or ethnic background. Jesus Christ accepts all just as we are.

  • Heidel - 18 years ago

Obama should be ashamed of himself for being associated with this loose canon. Everyone has obstacles to overcome in a lifetime; a true Christian pastor would be saying to rise above any wrongs committed by another color of people, not to hang on to and damn an entire country for those wrongs. It doesn't appear that Obama is suffering because of his skin color.

  • Becki - 18 years ago

I don't believe the Rev Wright has studied the same theology in relation to the Bible. This man is a racist and the Bible I have studied does not teach such teachings he presents to his followers. It is very obvious that Mr. Obama can't articulate his way out of this one. He has been under the influence of this man for 20 years. Does Mr. Obama think the American people are stupid. He can't make us belive he has not heard Wright make such comments before. And Mrs Obama reflects some of the same attitude as Mr. wright when she has approached the people of this country with her speeches........

  • dydouglas@igoogle.com - 18 years ago

I think Obama is a good man. He can't be responsible for every word that comes out of everyone's mouth that he knows or is associated with. The pastor was wrong. This just proves that only Jesus is perfect. And God help the person who runs for President in the USA.

I just feel that we should believe what Obama has said all thru his campaign. I for one have been impressed by his energy and his desire to make of us a better nation. And I believe that those who do not want to take the healthy risk of voting him in to the presiidency are going to find ways and means of ruining his possibility. This is another of those political slings. God bless America and God forgive those who are afraid of his wisdom and power.

  • James S. Farris - 18 years ago

Obama lied on Hannity and Colmes. Furthermore Colmes knew it but showed a clear bias for Obama. Alan has made statements tonight and other nights that make me seriuosly dislike and distrust him. In my opinion he should not be on the air he is seriously not only unreasonable but runs his big mouth when his guests speak on things he doesn't agree with . Obama is very scary, not a person to be president and will never get a vote from me or my family we all agree.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mitch - 18 years ago

Wow he's gone!!! How dare this supposed "pastor" once again defame Miss Lewinski with his vile and undeserved comments. Miss Lewinski lived through the trauma and moved on to become a lovely young woman with 2 degrees and a bright future. She did not dwell on her youthful indescretion, and Mr. Wright has no business dragging her name into this. The Bible says, whatsoever a man thinks in his heart.....so is he. For out of the abundance of the heart......the mouth speaks. This man's mouth and heart are full of hate. Geraldine Ferraro was called a racist.......this guy is the UBER-RACIST!

  • Rebecca L - 18 years ago

I am horrified! Could Obama really expect the American public to believe that he had no idea that his own pastor hated America and whites. From this point on Obama will have no credibility in anything he says. He should have left the church when he heard the first statement he claimed to find out a year ago. Of course Obama is responsible for sitting under the teaching of this hate monger for twenty years. In my book, the worst things the pastor has said were against God and misrepresenting who Jesus is! Did we forget that God is love? How could anyone claiming to know Jesus sit in the midst of such hatred of America. I'd be willing to bet most of the pastor's sermons had a tinge of this hate because he is obviously filled with the feelings of hate toward America and anyone white and God forbid, that they would have any money.I don't think Obama can talk his way out of this one. It's too real!

  • Johnny Thomason - 18 years ago

I strongly believe a lot of the comments on this page are from shills and fanatical McCain supporters. I'm actually a Hillary supporter myself, but what I believe is that Obama is a God-loving Christian who's been attending a Church in his neighborhood. How could he be responsible for what comes out of the mouth of a nutty preacher in speeches in which he wasn't even present???
Come on people. Can't you see this is a ploy to hurt Obama politically?

America is not perfect but anyone with a brain can see it is better than any other culture that has appeared on this planet. This includes Africa, Europe, Asia, etc. Obama is no different than any other politician. He will say and do whatever he has to to get elected. I was astounded that people couldn't see this even before the truth about his affiliations became known.

  • Shelley - 18 years ago

WOW....This is a sad day in American 2008, when there are Pastors like this out there that people follow and are guided by.

Mr. OBAMA was a follower of this Pastor/ex-pastor and still has a chance to be OUR Presidental . VERY SCAREY!!

  • Buck - 18 years ago

I have read Obama's first book and I thought I had a good insight into his character. I believed he was somebody who would be great to lead this country. In no way whatsoever do I continue to feel that way. I hope we will find out more as this story progresses and I reserve my final judgment until then. I await to hear the entire truth. I almost feel like Roger Clemens wrote Obama's responses to the Fox interviewer. This is very, very disheartening. Howard Dean was done after one hoarse shout. This is FAR, FAR more incendiary. Not a good day....

  • James - 18 years ago

I think it is a shame that this is all the democratic party can recruit. I guess it is gone totally far left. It is a sad day in America when a minority, far left lunatic group, can control a political party that is supposed to uphold the voice of the people.

It is also a sad day in America when a so called preacher, blasphemes in the pulpit.

What a disgrace. I don't think it would have taken me 20 years to know what kind of person preacher Wright is.

  • T.A.Watson - 18 years ago

It is my understanding that the Obama campaign has been concerned about this association for quite some time. I respect Obama for not wanting to completely disassociate from the person who introduced him to a path of good work for others. This pastor's comments make many of us uncomfortable - Barack Obama's words do not . . . I still believe that Obama is a man of integrity who can lead our country along the "high road".

  • Steve Parker - 18 years ago

    Greta,
These comments are racist, anti-American, and divisive. I can't believe that Barak Hussein Obama has been a supporting member of this church for 20 years and didn't know this was going on. The reaction of the audience indicates this is standard fare for this congregation. We have a presidential candidate who doesn't salute the flag, who's wife is not proud to be an American, and a candidate who admittedly listens to the advice and counsel of someone who can only be described as racist and anti-American. Why should anyone vote for him??? If Obama really wants to distance himself, he should resign his membership publicly, effective immediately, denounce any and all comments made by this pastor, encourage all other black congregants of the church to do the same, and publicly denounce any Black minister who makes similar remarks. IF he does all this, he may regain some credibility. When you're president, you represent all Americans, regardless of race.
Slavery was a horrible institution, but it ended over 140 years ago. Isn't it time we got over it????

  • Amanda Apodaca - 18 years ago

    Greta,

this is nothing more than cheap and disgusting sensationalism designed to destroy the greatest candidate and campaign in modern history. Obama absolutely should not be judged by the pastor's inflamatory sermons...after all, it is Obama who is the candidate, not pastor Wright.

i think the much more scandalous story is Clinton's connection of accepting Monsanto contributions and the dealings through Rose Law Firm clients, Monsanto, Tyson, and WalMart which ultimately led to the 100k contribution and her appointment to the WalMart board of directors. How is it that Senator Clinton can pretend to care so much about the safety of our country's children(as in the red phone ad) when she accepts money from Monsanto which infuses the milk and peanut butter consumed by these children with dangerous substances with the potential to kill? (European countries have banned these substances).

Senator Clinton is the true hypocrite and the public should know of her dealings. Before all of you at Fox go off on incessant destruction of Obama,...
take a hard look at the Rose Law Firm, Hillary and Bill Clinton, Monsanto, WalMart connections.

  • Tom Botelho - 18 years ago

Obama's wife believes America is a mean country. Hmm, they went to the most expensive schools, make hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. Seems America has been very good to the Obamas. I watched the Obama interview with Major, to me he is done. 20 years and he never heard these hateful things? BS! Sure would have like to have been a fly on Obamas wall with this preacher saying grace at Thanksgiving dinner. 20 years of hearing hate begets hateful. America don't be fooled. This guy will ruin America, more welfare, more free goverment things that hard working whities like me willhave to pay for. RUN everyone run as fast as you can from this guy. And he referred to him as his Uncle- Uncle hate Mr. Whitey. Obama just lied to America by saying he never heard this preacher say evil things. I do not want a man that thinks its okay to take his kids to a church where the preacher GD's America? Are you kidding me? Yes guilty by asscociation hell yes. We can see Obamasd true colors shining through. Don't be afrisd to let them show your true colors , true colors. Mccain - Oh God please get Mccain elected, if their every was a man deserving- Satan has been trying to take Mccain out his whole life and John has managed to dodge the reaper everytime. Mccain has a destiny. Please God , please get Mccain elected!!

  • winnie - 18 years ago

I am very alarmed at the divisive tone of this pastor and Obamas mentor. We need leaders of unity between the races and the ability to work with all people and not revert to the past with such hatred. He didn't seem like a well balanced person. Jesus preached love. This guy scares me and endorsing Farrakan means he is not on the right track. God bless America. He is asking God to damn America. How Obama can condone this retoric is beyond belief. Twenty years is a long time to endorse this pastor. It does make one question
why Obama stayed if he did not go along with the pastor's beliefs.

  • Mickey - 18 years ago

    Hi Greta,

I guess we don't have a crush on Obama anymore!

As a Democrat delegate, I am just in a state of shock over the hateful remarks made by people close to Obama. I think this is very bad for Obama and for people that have put their name and support for what seems to be just another corrupt politician. He is probably more of a danger to the country than we thought. Between this and everything else that has come out has pretty much ended any chance of their being a President Obama and I am so grateful that the media has gotten over their crush on Obama and opened their eyes!

  • Kate - 18 years ago

Anyone who asks God to "damn America", should burn in the fires of Hell. That statement made me sick to my stomach. This may sound silly but, he has a white mother, black father - why does he call himself black?

  • JAMES COOPER - 18 years ago

I THINK OBAMA SHOULD RESIGN AS A US SENATOR. HE DEFINITELY IS VERY UNCOMFORTABLE ABOUT THE STATEMRNTS HIS PASTOR MADE AND I AM WILLING TO BET HE'S ALREADY HEARD MOST OF THIS ANTI AMERICAN SPEAL NUMEROUS TIMES IN HIS 20 YEARS OF ASSOCIATION. I SURE WOULDN'T VOTE FOR HIM BUT THEN THE THE CLINTONS ARN'T MUCH BETTER. THERE BOTH LIARS AND THE DEMS . WILL JUST STICK THEIR HEADS IN THE SAND AND TAKE IT AS BUSINESS AS USUAL AND CIRCLE THE WAGONS. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS LISTEN TO BOB BECKLES EXCUSES

  • pat b - 18 years ago

My comment you can't chose your family but you can choose your frineds. There is a smell in the air and it is BO. He has lost all the potencial votes coming from this area.

  • Barbara - 18 years ago

I am at a loss to understand how Mr. Obama represents the best of this country and yet associates with the likes of the Rev. Wright. It seems a very unusual relationship. I am pleased to see that the Senator has grown beyond the sensibilities and values of the Reverend. How refreshing to see the Senator demonstrate he is one of the best of America.

  • Sandra - 18 years ago

What a joke. The Clintons are sitting back laughing but you know what - she is not getting these votes - McCain will.

  • maria vandis - 18 years ago

you know it may sound hard but the pastor is preaching the truth and sometimes the truth hurts, this is the reality either we like it or not. Look how Jesus C, was treated, because people doesn't like to accept the real thing.

  • Joan Towne - 18 years ago

Sad, but true. This will definitely hurt Obama's desire to be president of this country. I had thought of giving him my vote but not now.

  • Kim - 18 years ago

    Gretta,
Obama has said that Rev Wright is like "an old uncle" who says things that he doesn't always agree with. Here's my problem. We don't get to choose our relatives, but we certainly do choose our pastors, spiritual leaders, and friends. Generally speaking, these people usually reflect our values. I thought Obama's answer was very poor, and yes, I think that this is a serious issue.

  • Jon - 18 years ago

Barrack Obama needs to do the right thing and drop out of the race... he obviously privately agrees with alot of this hate speech, otherwise he would not be a part of this church and donate alot of his money.... An America Hater should never be elected to the highest office in the land nor have the control of its policies.
