I like supporting the local record store. I'm old fashioned that way.
Bill - 15 years ago
I live almost an hour away from the record shop, so Amazon is my preferred source. I do like to flip through CDs at the record shop BC I usually always find something I didnt know I was looking for.
Kim Hojung - 15 years ago
I always buy CDs from my local Record store or Band's or Label's Online store. I don't buy mp3s cause I can rip those from my CD and it's better. And... I love Dream Theater so PLEASE PICK ME!!
Shaun Kandathil - 15 years ago
Can't wait for the new albums!
Gabriel Pinto da Silva - 15 years ago
I buy from local record store and online retailers and listen to streams.
James - 15 years ago
I Want That New Opeth Album.
Andrew Johns - 15 years ago
Online stores usually, but most bands websites offer extras like autographs and DVDs.
It depens: I buy music through itunes because it less expensive but I also buy it from amazon because I'm also a old fashion girl who love have the cd in her hands, read the thankful notes, see the cover of the cd and the pics inside, ...
Rachel - 15 years ago
It's just easiest to buy from a record store because the CDs are all there around you so you can pick & choose the ones you want most. iTunes is getting expensive too so amazon works better a lot if the time. And of course buying CDs at a show are great because you can get them signed!
Also, Machine Head & Trivium are fucking amazing!!
Graham Phillips - 15 years ago
I usually just buy the cd's from best buy and import the songs into my itunes account then transfer the songs into my ipod
Dylan Howell - 15 years ago
Machine Head!!!
Alban Mora - 15 years ago
I prefer to buy cd's from online stores or at band shows because record stores usually charge more, not that I am cheap, but cheaper cd's = more cd's :-P
James Swanson - 15 years ago
Mainly from local record stores and sites like Amazon. I'm not a huge fan of digital.
I need to have the physical feel of my albums I still buy vinyl too. But I always go to my local record shop to buy new CDs sometimes I will pre-order them to get limited editions. And I love picking up CDs at local shows to check out underground music and aspiring artists.
Jorge Castañeda - 15 years ago
I buy Mp3 albums, generally from sites like Legalsounds.com and Gomusicnow.com. It's easy, fast and reliable.
Logan J - 15 years ago
I like to buy direct from the merch table/booth at a show. It makes me think the band is getting more of the money. Plus it means I was at a live show and live music is always awesome.
Erik K. - 15 years ago
I usually buy most of my my music off of iTunes, but I prefer to buy my favorite albums from a record store in vinyl so that I can frame them and hang them up on my wall.
Chris Sanderson - 15 years ago
Normally buy my cd's from Play.com, occasionally Amazon or if I'm really impatient I'll go into HMV & buy them instore, I tend to avoid buy instore as stores charge way more than online.
I usually pick up albums from Amazon because they have a great selection and usually have the best prices. Sometimes I'll check out a local record store but the prices are really high there.
Simon Bayliss - 15 years ago
I buy from play or amazon, unless i need something more obscure then go for a local store or the bands website
Kristy Fradette - 15 years ago
Any new music is good music...I like listenting to most of it! Bring on the new tracks!
James - 15 years ago
I prefer to pre-order or get music from shows when the bands come through! The only record store with a decent selection in town is HMV, and even then they rarely stock the stuff I'm looking for. Discogs.com marketplace is the best way to find hard-to-find CDs/LPs!
Fabricio - 15 years ago
From local stores... sometimes I buy online... just for the price!
Tim Stratton - 15 years ago
I have changed over the years. I used to buy only cd's from stores. I know primarily buy off of iTunes and other mp3 online websites. I still buy in stores, but not as much as online. Buying online is so much more convenient and you only need a notebook to store it.
Jaime L. - 15 years ago
Mostly streams and some hidden gems on amazon.com
Rick Starfighter - 15 years ago
I try to buy from the band's website, if possible. If not that, then from a smaller online retailer such as Lasers Edge (lasercd.com), Kinesis (kinesiscd.com), Synphonic (synphonic.8m.com), or Caerllysi Music. Final would be a local retailer (Best Buy) or Amazon.
Downloading mp3's? Ugh! Give me the physical product!
I don't have the income right know to buy any cds, but when I'm able I prefer buying online, 'cause you can find good prices and albums you can't easily get in a country like mine. Other than that, it's really cool when family or friends give you cds as presents :)
Mirko - 15 years ago
I usually buy online (cheaper and faster most of the time), but nothing is more satisfying than find a cd in a little local store!
Gustav - 15 years ago
Preordering, ordering and buying at shows, ftw.
Corey Watson - 15 years ago
I already have In Waves. Great album from a great band!
Vince - 15 years ago
I buy mp3's online and buy vinyl of my favorite bands at record stores and online. Opeth!!!!
If it is a new lbum I'm longing for, I'll pre-order. If is something that was released a while back and my local store happen to have, I'll go there and get out of the store a happier person!
Michael - 15 years ago
By the time a band stop for its tour hear, I have bought the CD long before.
Daniel Rankin - 15 years ago
I have been pre-oredering from bands for years. I feel it shows support and faith in the band and their vision. Good poll, wish more record labels did this kind of thing.
TobiK - 15 years ago
Can't believe there are actually people that don't buy music :-/
Sarah - 15 years ago
I almost always buy my CD's from Amazon, because the prices are more reasonable than in the high street stores! Amazon rules! \m/ *_* \m/
Morteza Khoshmagham - 15 years ago
I usually order them from bands' websites.
Mike - 15 years ago
I buy from my locally owned record store. I like to hold the music in my hands and I don't want to wait for it to be shipped. The last Cds I bought were from Rush, Clutch, Volbeat and Moterhead.
Lisa - 15 years ago
Don't get a lot of choice but to buy on line - no record shop where I live - would have to travel to buy in a shop
Dave - 15 years ago
I'm surprised more people don't buy albums at the show. Oh and... OPETH!
Paul - 15 years ago
I'm usually impatient, so I either buy on iTunes or at my local store for bands I know. For bands I may not be familiar with (festivals or an opening band I dont know), I definitely pick up albums at the venue.
Christine - 15 years ago
Mostly iTunes. Unless I really like the band, then I buy it on iTunes so I can have it right away, and I'll pre-order a hard copy from Amazon.
Steve - 15 years ago
I try to buy direct from the bands or their labels
Keith - 15 years ago
Online is the only way because we only have Hastings in town and they suck!
Brian - 15 years ago
I buy 98% of my music from Rasputins or FYI.
Joe - 15 years ago
I always buy physical copies. Especially when you want to appreciate the artwork. I don't care if that means more crap in my house. Its just nice to have them as a real collection.
I often first listen to streams and then buy CDs, preferably in stores. I like the idea of entering a store, picking up my copy and pay for it, this is what I miss when I order online.
Panos - 15 years ago
online stores ftw.
Brandon - 15 years ago
Trivium F-ing Rules Metal is eternal!!!!!!
Jeff - 15 years ago
Physical cds only for me!
Theodore - 15 years ago
I usually buy cds from Amazon because in my local record store, the prices are twice as Amazon's...
CD's are great, I love to have the actual product artwork and liner notes in hand. However, it's awesome to be able to download the album you want the second it is released from your own computer via iTunes. I also discover more new artists via iTunes than I ever did browsing the record store.
Nathan - 15 years ago
I buy my music through all types of outlets...amazon, iTunes, stores, etc and I buy both digital downloads or cd's all depends on the best deal
al - 15 years ago
It all depends on the album. For local bands I buy it at a show if I like them. For big bands it depends on how much I like them. If I really like them I get physical.
Viktoria N. - 15 years ago
Usually I pre-order on Amazon, they're pretty reliable :)
Kyle Fleming - 15 years ago
mainly online nowadays mainly because its cheaper but when im out and i see some CD's i want ill buy them from the shop
Kristen - 15 years ago
I typically buy albums at a local record store but for what its worth Amazon.com has me hooked when they offer great albums daily for 3.99. It's hard to pass that up so I also buy from there.
Always buy my cd's from Fye or online. It's the only way to get the ones you want.
lfesvr - 15 years ago
Of course the best is from the band directly... signed of course! Although I often buy from iTunes or Amazon mp3 downloads, I still go to the store to get the actual CD - especially when I know I'll get to see the band to get it signed. And for my favorite "up & coming" bands, I buy multiple copies/formats to help promote :)
Melanie - 15 years ago
I buy what CDs I can from either Vintage Vinyl (a record store fairly close to my home) or from another store which has a fairly large selection--f.y.e. If I know neither store has what I want, I will most likely purchase it off of Amazon where I can get it and for cheaper. I don't like purchasing only mp3s because I like the feel of the album in my hands--to look at the cover art and to read the band's thanks, their lyrics...and to just look at the whole package they worked so hard on. With an mp3, I find, it's not the same, so...
Yury Allan Turcios - 15 years ago
I buy my cds online because some of my favorite bands albums are hard to find at my town, so the only way to get them is online. I don´t like i tunes or stream downloads because I apreciate the artwork and the whole package stuff that comes with an album, so I prefer to buy the cd, even better if is in the deluxe editions(xtra stuff, or something like that. Right now waiting for next Megadeth effort, keep thrashing please.
SB - 15 years ago
Recently, I have been using Spotify to stream most of my music. Otherwise, I download music from Amazon or iTunes.
Maciej - 15 years ago
I don't have many record shops around my home, because it's small town in Poland, but I try to buy them in Empik store or sometimes from band's net sites. DREAM THEATER rulez!!! I'm waiting impatiently for the new album:)
Martina - 15 years ago
I am usually buying the CDs offline:).Not in my local store though...because my local stores are not carrying metal music. And i am also buying a lot when i am at festivals and of course, from bands at their shows.MP3 does not interest me...i need to have the physical stuff.
Timo - 15 years ago
I buy from amazon mostly, because it's cheaper than in a store. But sometimes I go to a record store if I happen to be near one.
What's important for me is that I want a physical copy, not only mp3s
Nico666 - 15 years ago
I often pre-order from the label website or buy in a local store if it's cheap
DevilsLilSis - 15 years ago
I buy CDs from my local record store. I like this feeling when i suddenly find an album of my favourite band among other CDs.
Firmly believe in buying the full album product direct from the band or the label's own site whenever possible, supporting musicians and not the commission based retail or download stores.
Albums are meant to be an Artists 'entire work' and not split-up as individual digital downloads.
Support musicians, buy full albums, fuck iTunes!
Brad - 15 years ago
I usually purchase from iTunes, as i get a lot of iTunes gift cards for birthdays/christmas etc. If the album is a special/collectors edition, or if there are extras, then I will go to the local JB Hi-Fi and preorder it.
Nick Vaughn - 15 years ago
I always buy from a record store. Although, my city no longer has one, so I have to drive quite far to get them :( but it doesn't stop me!
Konsta Kauppinen - 15 years ago
I buy all my cd's on my local record store. Nowhere else.
Daniel G - 15 years ago
I mostly buy music from local CD store because it's very convenient, but when I am waiting for a particular record to be released I pre-order it from the band's website or record label.I like Dream Theater's new release so much and i would love to win it !
Scott - 15 years ago
Amazon, it's so cheap it's amazing
Regan Boyce - 15 years ago
I love buying albums, it feels good getting free stuff in pre-order packs!
Alexander - 15 years ago
1. I use band's official stores to buy CDs, or label's. To support them. 2. If the record I want to buy is out of stock, I search for it in my local shops, web-sites like amazon or discogs, etc :)
Angel - 15 years ago
I use the stores to buy music but most of the bands I listen to couldn't be found easy :)
Hector - 15 years ago
Hell yeah! I buy music from all sources: at the show, my favorite music shop here where I live, Amazon, iTunes... I have cd's all over the place and my external hard drive is filled with music I've bought online (although I prefer a physical disc). SUPPORT YOUR FAVORITE ARTISTS!!!! BUY THEIR MUSIC!!!!
Megan - 15 years ago
When I purchase CD's I always buy them from a local store but I when purchase downloads I get them through Amazon.
Marianne - 15 years ago
Usually buy through Amazon cause I can never find the bands I listen to in stores.
mark - 15 years ago
It seems wacky that everyone insists digital is the only thing that matters, yet voters overwhelmingly want physical discs. It doesn't matter how I get it. I just want a real disc I can hold and not a digital file.
Robert McLendon - 15 years ago
First, I live in a small town so I almost always have to order my music online. Mostly mp3's from iTunes, Amazon, or Loud Trax (depending on price and/or extras). If it's an indie band, one of my favorite bands, a limited issue disc/package or hard to find disc I'll order the cd from the band's website, cmdistro, or the record company's website.
Rob - 15 years ago
I'm really looking forward to the new DT release.
Michel - 15 years ago
I comment for the chance of winning some kick-ass prizes...
Dawn Dow - 15 years ago
I always try to buy from my local record store, to support local business. If they don't have what I'm looking for I will go online to amazon.com. I also purchase from itunes for my mp3 player. I also stream music from pandora radio and Iheart radio.
Stephanie Paige - 15 years ago

JAFNI - 15 years ago
Roadrunner Rocks! I would love to buy from my local record store, but from where I live in (Malaysia), it is damn hard to get Roadrunner Records from any local store here. So, I bought my favorite band's album from their web sites, online and other links provided by them. Thanks... And I want the new Trivium - In Waves please. Thanks.
Rob - 15 years ago
It may be considered old fashioned, but I love having a physical copy of my music. I'll only buy digitally from iTunes or Amazon.com if it's on sale for a much cheaper price than the CD.
I always buy at the store
Love all these bands, commenting for great justice!

buy them from shows after i have heard them play, partially because i feel guilty after sneaking in.
Machine Head! Trivium!
JB's all the way!
Definately at the local record store (usually best buy). Unless the band is obscure enough to not be instores, then amazon.
Machine Head! Trivium!
