Usually Amazon and such since my local record store's catalogue is pretty slim...

  • Ros - 15 years ago

Always and only buy them from web. It's really cheaper than local store! \m/

  • Joseph - 15 years ago

I feel somewhat archaic here, but I like having CDs as backup then burning my own MP3s, and the only real way to do that is through Amazon these days. I will occasionally buy single MP3s from iTunes or Amazon as well.

  • Ed - 15 years ago

I like browsing Amazon's monthly $5 album deals. However I will go to a store when I want the physical album, like Dream Theater cds.

  • Rafael Zanolla - 15 years ago

I guess that, even in 2011, buying only online stuff doesn't make anyone a fan of a band. Having the actual record held in hands is yet the best thing in music, whatever style it is (and may I be blessed to have DT's ADToE won from this poll!).

  • Joe Chitwood - 15 years ago

I like having the actual CD's because I'm old and like the old days when you spent time reading the liner notes and looking at the album covers. That stuff is still important, but it's getting lost with the younger generation that want to listen to one cut off of a band's release. They miss the opportunity to like one song, then let the others become their favorite as time goes by.......you can't get that on i-tunes.

  • Rachel O'Brien - 15 years ago

I buy music on Itunes, and then also enjoy the site Noise Trade and band sites, and sometimes even buy a physical copy, if the music is from a local band and there not sold online.

  • Mark Rohret - 15 years ago

I almost always buy from stores. I want the packaging. I usually listen to steams just to preview the album.

  • naergon - 15 years ago

Local stores are no good anymore, it's easier to just order it from Amazon.

  • Stephen - 15 years ago

I would buy CD's but its usually cheaper online.

  • Carmen - 15 years ago

Some AMAZING bands have come from Roadrunner Records! This is a fantastic record company who 100% stands behind the bands that they release! They are great and I look forward to seeing who comes next from Roadrunner! :)

  • donna - 15 years ago

i prefer to support the band directly by buying cd's [and merch] at the show or from their website...if that's not an option, my local record store [vintage vinyl] is where i get more obscure things , plus it's cool to support the last of the brick & mortar record stores...

  • Michael Montelbano - 15 years ago

I admit i usually try to find music by any means necessary. But im always out on the hunt for CD'S! my collection is ridiculous!

  • Rob W - 15 years ago

I hypnotise carrier pigeons to swoop into ASDA and grab them.

Also, record shops. Nothing beats walking into the shop on release day, seeing an army of brand new CDs staring up at you from the shelves, picking your puppy, handing it to the automaton at the counter, and then grinning inanely for the next thirty minutes as you try to subliminally influence the bus driver to drive you home that liiiittle bit faster. It's like my Christmas. Absolutely superb.

  • Sasha Perera - 15 years ago

I mostly buy my CD's when I got a record store like Hot Topic or Virgin Megastore. I also make it a point to buy records from a band show, to support my favorite bands!!!

  • Mike - 15 years ago

If it's a great band and a great album, you've got to get it in some physical form. It's not just about the sound, there is more to the experience, the liner notes and artwork etc, and for my favourite bands, such as Dream Theater, the idea of not having the uber-collector-mega edition of their albums just seems wrong...

  • mike - 15 years ago

I wish I didn't buy as many mp3s as I do. There's just something about owning a physical product instead of a bunch of 1s and 0s that appeals to me. I try to buy CDs (from a store if possible) as often as I can, but it's nowhere near as convenient. Such is life sometimes.

  • Zach - 15 years ago

I would buy from a record store if I could, but there are none in my area. So I gotta stick to buying from the internet, mostly Amazon and band websites.

That being said, MACHINE FUCKIN HEAD!!!

  • pzosa - 15 years ago

I equally distribute my music between CD's, Amazon MP3's and streaming via Spotify. The CD's are usually purchased at Newbury Comics but occasionally from a band at a show or Amazon.

  • R Voyles - 15 years ago

Most of the time I stream stuff now. When I find something I like I usually just buy it through iTunes because it's hard to find good metal in most stores.

  • Alejandro - 15 years ago

I prefer the website of the band or in concerts. Sometimes, webpages like amazon or play.com offers good prices!!

  • Daniel Aguilar - 15 years ago

I buy my music online, Amazon or the official page of the band I'm looking for, because that way is easier to find what I am looking for. And sometimes in the local music store, but they don't always have what I like. For example I never found Porcupine Tree in most stores, Dream Theater is rarely found and you see the aisles full of Lady Gaga, Rap, hip hop and other music I don't like.

  • Andrew - 15 years ago

Basically, however I can get a physical copy works for me; beg borrow or steal from a shop front or order online I don't really care

  • JSW - 15 years ago

Due to space limitations in the house, downloads have become more and more the way for me, unless it's something special.

  • JDP - 15 years ago

Been no local record store in my towm for years so has to be online

  • Daniel Caridade - 15 years ago

I usually buy from Amazon or from the band's website... but i go nuts during concerts and waste all my money buying stuff right there!!!

  • Kyle Ryznar - 15 years ago

I use to buy from my local record stores for thd longest time, the I figured out amazon, which was not only cheaper but I generally got my album a few days before everyone else. Then iTunes came out and made it almost easier, buy it still just didn't feel as good as a real physical cd in my hands.

  • Josh - 15 years ago

Whether it's buying online or buying in store, I gotta have my music!! You can NEVER have enough!

  • Tiffany Jackson - 15 years ago

Machine Head!!! Give me the CD's ;-)

  • Pats - 15 years ago

I buy at stores and online shops, because I still like to own the CDs, not just some mp3 files. Even so, I end up listening to the mp3s I extract to my iPod, but yet I treasure the CD.

  • JDBass - 15 years ago

I used to purchase music from my local record store until they stopped carrying obscure, worldly music so i turned to iTunes and as of late, I have started to stream from Spotify because of the wide variety of different music out there with every search.

  • Dan - 15 years ago

I always buy form the local owned and operated record store or locally owned and operated book store - except when I see a band and they have the disc at the show. Small operations with actual personality provide jobs, gathering places, and life to communities, so I always go with those. I will buy at shows to support bands that are making great music and put on great shows because they earned it and I want artists I like to be able to keep generating experiences that I enjoy. I will use iTunes for that one track you can't get otherwise, a bonus track not on the copy I bought, or if a record really only has one good song (I wish that iTunes had been around so I could buy the great song Dig off LD50 instead of buying that piece of shit album with only one great track and several fucking horrid ones!).
That said, I think the prize discs would be a great score, but I will buy Machine Head anyway (after the Blackening, I am sold!) and already have a signed Heritage copy waiting at an upcoming Opeth show. These are two of the greatest music acts going currently imo - haters be damned!

  • Rick! - 15 years ago

Amazon.com rules! They have a huge selection of rare editions, like japanese versions of great Rock Albums, or Bonus Tracks! versions, I usually buy from my local store Mix-Up and CD Planet, like 2 o 3 albums every week :)... Roadrunner Records, are just Fucking Hardcore, Keep it up my friends :[

  • Sjoerd - 15 years ago

Ofcourse I buy them from the local record store, and if they don't have it I buy the cd's at shows or order them from official sites, and special editions as pre-order.

  • Bryan - 15 years ago

The only place to buy around here is best buy and target but their cd section is getting smaller. Starting to buy on iTunes more

  • Tove Edvardsen Melhus - 15 years ago

I usually buy my music at Amazon, please send me Dream Teather ;)

  • Sara - 15 years ago

I love going to a concert, loving what I hear, and buying the cd from the band.

  • Grim - 15 years ago

My name is Grim Karasu and if you don't chew big red then f*ck you! Machine Head fucking OWNS!

  • Walis - 15 years ago

I like to get my music on cd's. You get the album artwork that way and you can always convert the music to your desired electronic form: mp3 or such. As a bonus you get the pure feeling of not supporting piracy.

  • Fredrich - 15 years ago

Usually buy the physical DVD from amazon, sometimes from the bands site.

  • Matthew Yoh - 15 years ago

I mostly buy from Amazon because there aren't many/any local record stores where I am. I occasionally search Best Buy and Wal-Mart if I think the band I'm looking for is popular enough to be there, although that usually isn't the case. So Amazon is where I get most of my stuff.

And I do admit I look on YouTube for an artist before buying their music. I'm a college student, so I can't just plop $15 on an album and hope it'll be good. I'd rather have a little more security and make sure I invested wisely. Of course, I do look for the record label's or band's channel to hear their music, since that way I at least know it's the legitimate music and not some awful rip-off or cover or something.

  • Dario P. - 15 years ago

Well, i love music in all the ways i can find, so...
I am a music lover who spends a lot of money in cds, lps, cassettes, book, posters, all from clasic rock bands like The doors, Pink Floyd, Supertramp, RUSH, etc.
For the new music, i depend very much to mi local record store, and the internet for the clasics.
    Thats it.

  • Jean-Frederic - 15 years ago

More and more I buy on iTunes. Even if I buy the physical CD, I'll rip it and listen to it on my iPod or streaming throughout the house, so the actual CD is just cluttering up the place.

  • M. Bloemendal - 15 years ago

I always buy from an online retailer. I guess I'm the typical dutchman because I want to support bands, but as cheap as possible ;-)! And it happens to be that webshops have the lowest prices. I buy CD's with special DVD's more often, because I love to see the behind the scene and making of stuff, it lets you get to know the band/artist. Other then buying these CD/DVD packs, I support bands by coming to their shows.

  • kris - 15 years ago

Buy at a store always to many local record stores closing down nowadays

  • MikeMazz - 15 years ago

Waiting for DT's new release, with new drummer Mike Mangini. I usually purchase from Amazon.

  • Jeremy - 15 years ago

I always prefer to by my CD's at a store so that I can have a hard copy of the album. If I'm paying for a CD I would rather have the actual CD and not just digital files from itunes.

  • john coutu - 15 years ago

I prefer buying from the band at a show otherwise from a local music store. My LEAST favorite is from the Roadrunner website. How you guys can charge a
minimum of 15 dollars for a CD
AND an 8 dollar shipping and handling charge when eBay or amazon won't let anyone charge more than 3 dollars for S&H. It's a blatant ripoff!

  • Daniel - 15 years ago

My comment is John Petrucci is God. I hope I win.
    Roadrunner rules.

  • Genesis - 15 years ago

Usually Amazon offers tracks from my favorite artists for free! Otherwise, I take advantage of iTunes sales and (yes!) I still sometimes buy CDs.

  • Phil Gehman - 15 years ago

CDs and lossless audio rule!!! MP3 blows.

  • Lidia - 15 years ago

To buy great albums like the ones offering, I'd use all means available needed!! However the best ways are really through an online retailer or the band's/label's website!!!

  • Brian - 15 years ago

I've become a fan of digital downloads, but there is nothing like the feel of a physical compact disc, am I right? Also, I have plans on buying all those albums listed in this contest, so it would be awesome to win them instead. Roadrunner Records is winning!

  • Tommy - 15 years ago

    \m/

  • Chris - 15 years ago

Most of the music stores here suck so I am forced yo go through a bands website or iTunes, amazon etc. There really is something special about unboxing a new cd and reading the liner notes.

  • Logan - 15 years ago

Music is my life, if anything were to happen similar to the scenario in Styx's "Kilroy was Here" scenario I would just die. So, I go out and I get the CDs whenever possible. Having the physical copy provides so much more than about 12 songs. It's sort of a collector's game with no end. You collect and collect and instead of just leaving them on the walls, you actually listen to them and admire CD-artwork too.
I love music and I can't wait for some future releases.

  • Scott - 15 years ago

I like to buy my CDs at local record stores, because they usually have the more popular albums and the less popular albums. I never know what I'll leave with because of the variety and my open mind. If the stores don't have a specific CD, I'll usually get it off of Amazon.

  • my - 15 years ago

High hopes for the new DT ....

  • Nadav - 15 years ago

I usually download albums that I think I might like, and then I buy them when I find them at a store or at an online retailer when I can afford it.

  • Luis C. - 15 years ago

I support my local (very good) record store, Newbury Comics, as much as possible. I already have tickets to see three of the four bands, so I really want the new albums too!

  • Mathías De Armas - 15 years ago

Unless it's really hard to find I use my local record store. Or buy them when I travel. Since I'm from uruguay, delivery times piss me off, but I occasionally buy stuff online (mainly dream theter's stuff)

  • Darrell - 15 years ago

I still like owning CDs. I buy most of mine through Amazon or other online retailers.

  • Helene G. - 15 years ago

I buy music in my local store, but I also like to buy it on Itunes. Because it's a pity to buy a CD and put it out of its case just one time to put it in the computer...

Oh god, I can't wait to see Machine Fucking Head again on stage !!!!!!!!!! :D

  • twink - 15 years ago

For those bands that I'm really into and follow closely I usually pre-order direct, especially if there is some form of special edition or package available. For everything else usually play or hmv online stores. I've started listening to Spotify a lot during the day while I work though and have found it a great way to discover new music

  • FlashX - 15 years ago

I used to only buy CDs but after a couple thousand, there begins to be a storage problem. I mostly buy mp3 now but still get the CDs of the really good stuff - like Dream Theater and Opeth!

  • Karim El-Kik - 15 years ago

Sadly, these days, I'm not buying any music. There are no music stores. We get only pirated CDs, and almost no metal. We can't use credit cards abroad here in Tunisia, so we can't buy them online.
I buy CDs whenever I travel abroad, I either looks for artists I like or labels I trust, like Roadrunner.

  • Morten - 15 years ago

CD's take up so much space. I only buy CDs of bands I really like. Other i buy in Mp3 or listen to via Spotify.

  • Brett - 15 years ago

I usually buy CDs from stores, typically thr day they're released. I like to have the actual CD AND rip it to my computer & iPod. I'll buy from iTunes if I can't find the actual CD.

  • Sheepy - 15 years ago

Trivium, dream theatre and machine head- WINNING!!

  • Ole Vrijenhoek - 15 years ago

I also buy second hand lps from old progressive rock bands like Camel, Kayak or Solution :D cool shit!

  • KT - 15 years ago

Unless it's one of my faveorite, favorite bands I order the digital album from Amazon. I boycott iTunes for their restrictions. If I'm getting the physical CD it usually comes from Amazon unless I'm at the band's show.

  • Drew - 15 years ago

    Heres my comment, 4 free Kick-Ass cd's plz?? :)

  • Rens - 15 years ago

I buy my cd's at concerts and festivals, because the local record store doesn't have the cd's I want

  • Raphael giraldez - 15 years ago

I buy my cds because I like to collect them. Having the artwork and extras pleases me, this is the main purpose on an album for me, is what makes me buy and not download. The apreciation and respect for the artist and the thought put in the product. Because of that I also think every cd should come with a digital copy, or a code for a one time download for syncing with itunes or something like that. Because as i said i only buy my cds for the thimgs besides the music and for the collectble feeling. The. Music itself i listen on the computer and ipods, so i have to burn all my cds and that takes time. A digital license would make things easier and its fair for someone who bought a cd not having to buy the digital copy on itunes again.

  • Tim van der Weyden - 15 years ago

I have stopped counting my cd's. 25 years old (okay, almost 26) and I kind a devoted my life to buying official cd's, vinyl records and dvd's. With of course the preference of buying the special editions. I even have double albums because the special edition was released later than the standard version. =P And if I can get the booklets signed, then I absolutely will let it be signed. I buy at a local store, who know my taste of music and when I walk in they can even tell what I would like, if I already have the albums I want and still looking for something else. When I want a collection to be completed, I look for good prices of older records at Amazon or other online stores and festivals. Got to love festivals. I have bought there like 35 cd's for only €150,-. For me that is a great deal and a great way to get to know new bands! Ironicaly, a lot of those albums were from Roadrunner contracted bands.
I also get to know a lot of new bands by visiting shows. When I love their performance, I will immediatly buy the cd when it is sold at the stand, preferelly buying older albums as well. My bankaccount hates me. =P

  • jud matteson - 15 years ago

Ubstill can't beat the sound quality of a cd. I'm old fashioned, buy them at the stoore!

  • jud matteson - 15 years ago

Ubstill can't beat the sound quality of a cd. I'm old fashioned, buy them at the stoore!

  • Justine - 15 years ago

I always, ALWAYS buy music, usually from the store.

  • Teun van der Laan - 15 years ago

I usually listen to stuff a lot online before I buy and support a band. Some bands I just expect it to be good and I'll buy it blind. Like opeth and dream theater!!

  • Segundo Torres - 15 years ago

I always buy my cds like new, they are pratically unused, and usually much cheaper than the sealed ones.

  • Sam - 15 years ago

    dream theater

  • Axel - 15 years ago

I listen to MP3 a lot, but I still love buying CDs, also I'm listenning to music you can't found on the web.

  • Justin Talent - 15 years ago

Mainly buy my music from local record stores here.

  • Shon - 15 years ago

Still buying CD's, digital copies are not for me. although not usually at shows.. I'll grab a nice shirt there.

  • Agus - 15 years ago

I usually buy it from local store ,it's hard to access amazon/itunes/label's website , so I'm just waiting for local store to stock the CDs and grab them when they are available or sometimes they make preorder for certain artists/CDs

  • Martha Peñaloza - 15 years ago

I listen to streams first, then I consider buying. When I grow old and rich I'll spend all my money on music.
Those are amazing releases, btw! I love Opeth. Good luck to all :)

  • Peter - 15 years ago

Actually, I rarely buy online, only at a local store. And local shops is very rare with products from Roadrunner records. I can only dream to own the cd, because it is very rare released at a my local store.

  • João Costa - 15 years ago

    Dream Theater & Opeth

  • Mads Mortensen - 15 years ago

    DREAM THEATER

  • Gian - 15 years ago

    CD Universe

  • Jeffery - 15 years ago

I usually buy from a record store, but have pre-ordered albums in the past. Have downloaded individual songs from Amazon/iTunes, but never an album...yet.

  • Mads Mortensen - 15 years ago

I'm a musician, so I always buy my music (most of it on iTunes). And I think all you people who don't buy (steal) your music should consider how you would get paid for your labour if people aren't willing to pay for your product or services.

  • PVT Laza - 15 years ago

I find that people don't value CDs, Cassettes, or Vinyl the way they used to. I used to buy CDs from every band I listened to. Now I buy everything I can get my hands on for my favorite bands, but settle for a digital copy from Zune or iTunes for the rest of them.

  • Adam - 15 years ago

Voted! Would love to own all 4 of those albums.

  • Terri Kerns - 15 years ago

I buy All My Album's from the Arists Labels or straight from the Artist themselves. Sometimes I buy International Albums through Amazon as a last resort.

  • Justin Talent - 15 years ago

Mainly from local record stores for me.

  • Tyrunea - 15 years ago

    Can't wait for Dream Theater's album :D

  • Trevis - 15 years ago

Okay so why would anyone buy MP3s? Connivence is a lame excuse. They are in large part an inferior product (no liner notes, artwork, etc). Anyway Trivium is awesome and what I've heard from In Waves via streaming is amazing.

  • MetalRanks - 15 years ago

i love to support the bands and not the retailers. i always buy directly from bands or cdbaby.com i also created a website called METALRANKS to promote metal bands
