Joanna is an amazing librarian and is a person who makes you always welcome. She is very knowledgeable across a wide range of disciplines, and acts immediately to any request for help to locate a source of information. She is great on a computer and willing to assist with displays for school projects, arrange for use of library spaces - for example for hundreds of girls to watch the transit of venus from the top floor last June - and for personal help with locating obscure journals! She would be a worthy recipient for this award.

I can understand some spikes, we had our annual get together at my house last night. There were 35 in attendance. Nearly every person knew Tania from her former role in Whyndham. Most do not have the internet and were upset they couldn't vote at the library as each time they tried it said that they had already voted. Low and behold, they seemed to be able to make votes from my computer. I looked like a right idiot, when I said you can't as I have already voted. ????? that would explain the jump in Tania's votes last night.
Sheila Cudmore - 13 years ago
Thankyou Catherine for your energetic and cheerfull 110% help to all of us who visit the library
Tina Mason - 13 years ago
The website is definitely flawed.
I also noticed that a few people quickly jumped a hundred or so votes .. then almost no votes for over a week then suddenly had a large spike in votes again.
Julie - 13 years ago
I agree Jan. I also noticed that 2nd and 3rd place also made a massive jump of ~ 100 / 150 votes in a less than a day after receiving almost none for the past week or so.
I just checked and it definitely lets you vote more than once.
Jan Herivel - 13 years ago
Yes Robert, I noticed what looked like an anomaly last night as well which is why I posted the comment about voting once for a person. I noticed it as I took the time to read the desciriptions of each librarian and saw the huge jump in numbers in a shot time. There are a wondeful range of committed librarians who were nominated and it would be a shame to find out that there is something amiss. Perhaps someone from ALIA can check the traffic/stats etc?
Jill Bartholomeusz is an inspiration to all that work with her, she is infectious in that, you want to be around Jilly. Her professionalism and expertise are unsurpassed.
Have been watching the front runner, Just wondering how someone can get 103 votes between 10:35pm and 1:15am? A little extreme don't you think?

I had the pleasure of working with Leanne Windsor several years ago when she was librarian at Our Lady of the Elms in Akron, Ohio. Leanne took an old, dreary library and turned it into a hub of energy, ideas, and fun. She has a gift for getting students excited about books and reading, and her passion has grown and extended into technology, as well. Even now when she is continents away, she continues to inspire me as an educator and is someone I can contact for resources and help. She is the best!

Hi I am a primary school teacher and have taken many children to the Ballarat Library to borrow books and hear a story with Julie. The kids adore Julie! She makes library time so much fun and has changed the minds of many families who are now regular visitors of the library and their children members of the book club there. Julie is patient, caring and welcoming to all. She has a fantastic knowledge of the books in the library and makes time to share this knowledge with each child who has a question. But I think the kids' favourite thing about Julie would be the way she can make stories come alive with her crazy character voices and the way she talks about the parts of and pictures in the books she reads. Thanks Julie for all your help and the fun we've had with you!
Jan Herivel - 13 years ago

Julie Bull, at Ballarat Library, does the pre-school Story time and craft every week. She connects with each child, learning their names and encouraging involvement in the stories and during singing and dancing. I believe she is fostering a life-long love of reading, by listening to such a gifted storyteller. Her craft ideas are inspirational and keep the kids excited and enthusiastic. She's also got some cool dance moves (the Hokey Pokey in particular!), and involves the grown-ups as well. I think I love going to see Julie at story time more than my kids, and it's become a highlight of my young family's week. I am so thankful that Julie's amazing work has been recognised by this nomination. Her enthusiasm alone deserves a huge round of applause - and the families who attend always leave with a smile and a take-home piece of art.
