When the White House has specfic facts reported in error (intentionally) they should point them out. Otherwise the public is perfectly capable of assesssing the accuracy and bias of a news report. The White House is populated by a bunch of arrogant, bullying adolescents

  • Jennifer - 16 years ago

I am sick of the liberal media skewing their news reporting. It is not "politically correct" to have conservative values, as a large percentage of our population does. We don't need government shoved down our throats, lets not be complacent and let that happen. Fox news reports what many of us are afraid to ask about or understand.

  • jonno - 16 years ago

Liberals: Besides Fox who is REALLY questioning the agenda of the Obama administration. Are you suggesting that nothing should be questioned? nothing is worthy of criticism? Is there really occurring the transparency that Obama promised?

Pelosi has closed door meetings against the presidents campaign pledges, lobbyists are made presidential counselors! Where is the outrage from the left?!

One commentator above suggested that compared to the rest of the world Obama is "merely" center-left in his political views. Amazing! the left loves to pick and choose how we should emulate the rest of the world - hypocrites!

Heres a clue to your bias lefties: let's be like France and build up our nuclear energy plants so that we are just like them. ~80% of the electricity in France comes from nuclear energy. Lefties!! if nuclear power is good enough for the French - why not us?

Do you really care about global warming - nuclear is the answer, but no, your still stuck in a 60's mentality. Speak truth to power?? You ARE in power lefties - and you're screwing it up...

Government serves at the will of the people - i.e. ALL the people. All citizens of the United States should be permitted to respectfully ask and receive respectful answers to their questions. Organizations that serve citizens of the United States - regardless to their leanings - should be able to ask and receive honest replies to questions. My opinion is that Fox has the right to ask questions, and the White House has an obligation to reply to those questions. Who could find fault with this?

  • Marylynn - 16 years ago

At what point of having your rights ripped from you will you be uncomfortable? Last I checked the Bill of Rights was still in force, thus the 1st Ammendment isn't something that the Obama Administration can simply ignore. These people could care less about our rights but instead are focused on their tight circle of special interests.
Fox has turned out to be the only reliable source on the television.

  • Solana2012 - 16 years ago

"Blogo" and "A Concerned Citizen" have stated that they think those of us who are in favor of Fox News are clearing our caches and voting over and over - and that if we represent a true cross-section of this nation's views then we are in real trouble.

    How about turning that around?
How about the ones anti-Fox are clearing their caches and voting over and over?
How about those few being the real threat to our country?
The general consensus of those pro-Fox are pro-freedom of speech.
The general consensus of those anti-Fox are anti-constitution.

    Who is the real threat?
I am very afraid. I am very afraid of you. I am very afraid for my country. I'm very afraid for my adult children and my future grandchildren.
I guess I am an American zealot.
I am a zealout for the Constitution For the United States of America.
I am a zealout to want the same privilages for my future grandchildren that I enjoyed, having been born and raised in this country.
Slowly, these privilages have been suppressed. Freedom of religion has become freedom from religion. Freedom of speech has become, well, read the above comments. Immigrants to this great country used to come to embrace and enjoy our way of life. Today they come and want us to accomodate their ways of life. The word of the new millenium is "Political Correctness". If you disagree, you are now, simply, a racist.
It's a domino effect, gaining speed with every week.
    I don't like being afraid.

From my libertarian point of view, Fox News Channel stands alone vs. the OLD MEDIA, which generally "report" the administration's talking points (with apologies to Jake Tapper, who actually asks a hard question now and then). Fox news is sufficiently fair and balanced to make me angry about half the time. The commentary skews to the right and, thank goodness, someone lets us in on who's calling the shots in the White House and behind the scenes and where, unchecked, that might take the country. The media should be asking hard questions regardless of who is in the White House. They should be watchdogs. Instead, they're lap dogs. The old media is letting down the American people and I'm glad Fox is there to provide balance.

  • Gordon Wilson - 16 years ago

"Those who ignore History are condemned to repeat it." Sound familiar? What Obama, Pelosi, Feinstein, Biden and the ultra Liberal bunch are trying to do sounds remarkably similar to a tactic done in Germany in the mid 1930's. Simply "BAN" those who oppose you and you can do as you wish. History has been looking for the ANTI - CHRIST. Maybe he lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, right here in our own country.

  • docedmoo - 16 years ago

Come on S. Whiteside. Stop whining about a little reversec communnity organization. Shoe on other foot hurting?

  • Bud - 16 years ago

I'll bet the White House is regretting they encouraged this vote on what they hoped was a "friendly" media.

  • Charlie M. - 16 years ago

Fox is trying to wake up Americans to the truth about this far left admiistration and this liberal Democratic Congress. People need to listen, before it's too late. Attempts to muzzle the press is reminiscence of Hitler's Nazi government, in Germany, during the 1930's and early 40's that brought on World War 2. We cannot let that happen in this country. That's the reason voices like Fox News and it's affiliates, must be heard by the people.

  • middle man - 16 years ago

I may not agree with some of the views on Fox...but having the White House trying to silence them is far worse. When I listen to Katie Couric speak of the President or ask questions to him I often sense she wants to be sharing his bed not just reporting about him, but she has not been barred. Having a different point of view can not hurt us, the public is smarter than the White House must think, we may still like Obama when everyone is done swooning over him.

  • Joe - 16 years ago

    I love it.

When a Liberal sees a poll that doesn't go his way he cries foul and concocts a conspiracy theory how the poll is "flawed" or "rigged".

When the poll goes the Liberal's way it is certifiably authentic.

Face it, Obama is a Marxist and a charlatan.

This administration must be checked immediately.

  • A Concerned Citizen - 16 years ago

I have just finished reading over the comments above that this poll has engendered. If they represent a true cross-section of this nation's views then we are in real trouble, and frankly, it scares the hell out of me.

I certainly hope (as was mentioned above ) that the comments ARE the result of a small group of zealots who have cleared their cookies and are voting over and over.

  • Norbert - 16 years ago

Fox news is one of the few voices that helps us find the truth. No wonder the present White House is trying to quash its credibility. Those people don't think we can handle the truth.
We have a serious double-headed problem here. When the Government tries to muzzle free speech, we're really in trouble. Also when we have White-House people stupid enough to attack the people with cameras and microphones, someone on the selection committee slipped up. It's a losing game in the long run. Journalism will be with us long after Obama and his campfollowers are gone.

  • kwalker - 16 years ago

Hmmm wonder if Fox was bias in favor of the White House if the government would try to ban all the other news stations?

Every media outlet is bias in one way or another... get over it!!

  • jonno - 16 years ago

Bottom line: If you have a problem with Fox, then you are a child. Conservatives have had to filter through the liberal bias of NPR, NBC,ABC,CBS for years. Now that there is another source of news that shows a more conservative bent, the left is apoplectic. Progressive? Hah! you're mere bananna republic dictators - trying to shut down anyone who doesn't agree with your POV. Mommy - please make Fox stop saying things I don't like. Children - and your pied piper is tuning up...

  • TOM - 16 years ago

I'm with FOX on this! But, why do I find it so hard for liberal Democrats
to agree with this? The Constitution is the "Bible' for 'free' speech.
I am an 'independent'. However, I have come to the conclusion that you really can't talk intelligently to Democrats - they do not want to hear.

The first thing that comes out of their mouth is: "George Bush did this".

I think that we need a third party!

  • S Whiteside - 16 years ago

I'm sorry to say I think Fox news, as asinine as it is, has a right to do what they do. As I heard an NPR reported (I think?) say last week, "They show up at the same events we do." The fact that they report them with a different bias is, again, their right.
The sad thing is that a large portion of the U.S. population watches this pablum and calls it news, or calls it "unbiased" just because they heard it somewhere. A reflection on the failing national intellect.
I learned of this poll from someone who is a fox-news fan who wanted to stack the votes for fox. Just pathetic.

  • Jerry - 16 years ago

I have been looking at the comments this poll has engendered. If the real majority of folks in the country feel as most folks commenting above, we are in big trouble and frankly, it scares the hell out of me.

  • DesertCactus - 16 years ago

My question to all the Nay Sayers about Fox News is this: "If they are nobody's and only good for a laugh, why in the world would the White House take such a dangerous stance unless: (1) It knows that there more coming down the road from Fox News and it is fearful of what that might be; (2) Fox News is the ONLY organization, whether you love them or hate them, that is actually prying behind the curtain and showing us what the main stream media abysmally failed to do about candidate Obama, and worse - the people he is bringing into positions of influence and power; (3) And the most dangerous of all: The unmitigated gall to come out before the nation and proclaim to the press the White House felt so confident that the press would fall in line with them and turn on one of their own! If this was Chavez, I would understand. But! Maybe behind the scenes it is.

We the American people are starting to have a very uneasy feeling of the buddy, buddy relationship of the press with this administration. Worse, they are in a world of hurt because conservative like me have seen real bias out of their operations, such as the New York Times, and have turned away from them in wholesale legions. They forget, also, that many conservatives are business owners who did advertise.

We need a strong and independent press. We feel that we have been betrayed by those we trusted to be objective and fair. This love fest with the White House, and now what seems like fear of it, is becoming repulsive to the public at large and is producing a very large backlash that is going to cripple their profits and stoke the anger of the public against them. We want them to fail and a new independent voice with no strings attached to rise up and put an objective focus on the events in our world. The public is often far more educated and knowledgeable, even erudite, than the so called media wonks who produce the drivel we read and watch.

Be real, be the real deal, or we will discard you like a piece of junk and hate you for your betrayal of our trust.

  • T. J. Lynch - 16 years ago

To Mathew Lee: So you are telling me that the 20 minute 2-part adoration of Van Jones, that was so well-researched that it turned into a promo piece for his book, was "even-handed"? I'm sorry I listened almost exclusively to NPR on my commute to work for years but I turned them off 10 years ago when I realized my tax money was funding a one-sided view of the world. Sorry all the classical background music, fuzzy production values and hushed mellow-toned voices do not disguise the slanted message.

  • G. K. Limber - 16 years ago

FYI -- Today I got a forwarded e-mail from a conservative friend. It was a "chain letter" type e-mail imploring folks to vote in this poll and turn around the results which at the point the letter was started were 61% in favor of The White House. I think that it is blatantly obvious to anyone who thinks the least bit independently, that Fox news is feeding its fans a big dose of right wing propaganda cleverly disguised as "news" and "balanced" opinion. Yup -- I'm with the White House OK. GKL

  • Arthur Bottorff - 16 years ago

I don't believe the disinformation the WH is putting out about Fox News. Fox News has a great team of journalists who research and report the news and do so accurately--much to the dismay of liberals. The Fox team also has a few political opinion shows that are just that OPINION SHOWS, like Hannity, Beck, et al. Keep in mind there is a big difference between these OPINION shows and the actual News Broadcasts. Apparently the WH and the liberal media such as MSNBC aren't clever enough to make the distinction.

  • InvaderZim - 16 years ago

It doesn't matter if Fox really "asks the questions others don't ask" the fact should remain that the whitehouse can't' pick and choose who they want reporting on them.
Just imagine if Bush had done this with MSNBC, it would have been front page news every day until it was ended.
It is censorship no matter who does it and it is wrong. Hollywood cried foul when they spoke out against the US and the government and people stopped going to see their movies yet they are silent in this. They weren't censored they just found out that when your career depends on people 'liking' you it can be bad to anger a large portion of the population.
If enough people don't want to hear or don't like what Fox news has to say then their ratings will fall and they will either have to change or go away.

  • BILL - 16 years ago

The First Amendment is for everyone. The current puppet in the Whitehouse needs to accept it just as all the past occupants have had to obey the Constitution.

  • Warren Mitchell - 16 years ago

Freedom of the Press. Freedom of Speech. Does the White House really desire to destroy the Constitution of the United States odf America?

  • d middleton - 16 years ago

This action is similar to those of the world's most infamous dictators...silence the opposing press and media first. You know the rest of the story. American Citizens are intelligent enough to see the truth and are perfectly capable of seeing through the "smoke" of Politicians that try to "pull the wool over their eyes".

  • Vaughn - 16 years ago

I believe Fox News calls it like they see it just as any other "news" agency does. Bias is unavoidable. It just so happens that Fox News is biased against Obama, his policies and unquestionably against his agenda. The Obama administration, however does not like to be called to task. They want to operate in the shadows and dictate to the press what it should and shouldn't say. Just as Anita Dunn admitted they have and intend to control the media to their benefit. In other words, those news media who are kissing up to Obama and company are being played. The problem for the White House is that Fox News ratings are sufficient that they, unlike the rest, are not beholden to Obama and company. They do not need the occasional visit from members of the white house to pad their ratings. Like it or not these other news agencies have submitted themselves to a government run media reward program. Play by Obama's rules and say what they want and you too can have Obama bless you with his presence.

Whatever it is that the Obama administration is offering it's not freedom of speech and it most certainly is not transparency or post partisan. Accuse Fox of propaganda all you like and it still will not change the fact that Anita Dunn admitted the Obama campaign manipulated the press. If you believe they would have given up such an advantage after taking office you are fooling yourself. Fox is being singled out because they dare to speak out against such things.

As it is the AP and USA Today have both found the courage to offer up news that is not so flattering about Obama and his administration. You know. Facts and figures of studies that contradict what the White House has been claiming. Of course the White House immediately lashes out at them too. Imagine that.

Any way you slice it at the end of the day it's all about the Obama administration's intolerance for criticism.

  • Hillary - 16 years ago

Silencing dissenting press has worked well for many leaders: Peron, Mugabe, Hitler.

  • Jim - 16 years ago

The Administration is highly secretive and not transparent.
Their goals are not even published or understood.
It therefore, makes sence when a new or opinion program
communications source attempts to analyze their real agenda they
get very nervous/anxious and stike out.
That is why Obama is troubled by the free speech engendered by FOX
and others who attempt to present facts and truth.
This dose of Marxism and Tyranny is waking up America and this we die
as most lies and eventually die because their means to that end are
    fear, lying, and control.

  • blogo - 16 years ago

The poll is useless. It's quite clear a small group of clowns are clearing their cookie cache and voting over and over again for Fox.

People who believe there is any value to internet polling, unless it is strictly controlled are out of their minds.

Internet polling is like voting in Afghanistan.
    Your mileage may vary.

  • SaranacLakeGal - 16 years ago

Ask NPR's Juan Williams what he thinks of Fox News. He is on it all the time! He will give you an honest answer because he is an honest guy! He has said on Fox News that people who don't like Fox, do not watch Fox, as he is sitting there representing NPR. Have you Fox haters seen that? Of course not, because you don't watch it.

Ignorance truly is bliss people! The White House has made a huge mistake on this one and at some point in the not so distant future, the truth will be very clear! Possibly Obama is taking this stand because he feels backed in to a corner as he and his administration is being exposed for who they really are!

I am glad you put this survey out. I just hope the results of this survery will be published far and wide!

Since some of my tax dollars are spent funding NPR I request that this survey is published on NPR.

  • Victoria Watson - 16 years ago

This is so very, very, wrong! The Administration should have nothing to say about any news network! Have they forgotten that this country was founded on free-speech, and, yes, dissent? I usually watch CNN, which has its own bias, and a little FOX to get both sides. FOX and its viewers have as much right to their beliefs and opinions as CNN or NPR, or any other networks' viewers. Is President Obama saying that if you don't agree with him you are wrong? That's just scary, and beneath the "leader of the FREE world" to get involved in a schoolyard fight with the press.

  • Arrogant American - 16 years ago

Matthew - The libs have tried to paint President Bush and other conservatives as using Saddham's supposed involvement in 911 as a reason to go into Iraq. President Bush NEVER said that Saddham was responsible for 911! Saddham was responsible for sponsoring terrorism, Al Queda and had broken 14 UN resolutions and the Gulf War I truce.

It's hard for liberals to deal with facts instead of emotion.

  • Frankensteen - 16 years ago

NPR is nothing but a bunch of extreme left wing liberals. So am I. That is why I listen to NPR and not Rush. I am not ashamed to call myself a liberal. But, NPR is ashamed to say what they really are. WHY CAN'T YOU BE PROUD OF BEING ON THE LEFT???

  • Kinnison - 16 years ago

Fox News' reporters are fair and unbiased. Their talk show hosts lean right. NPR (And I have a right to criticize, as my wife and I are long-time supporters...) as well as the major networks and other cable news channels "lean left" in both their reportage and their editorializing. There has to be some kind of broadcasting balance, and if the rest of the media give the Obama Administration a free ride on tough issues then someone needs to hold their feet to the fire, ask tough questions, and dig for solid answers. That would be Fox.

  • Dick Benner - 16 years ago

With the White House, you don't believe what the President says but pay more attention to what he does. Fox news tells it like it is with out the lies.

  • Thatruth - 16 years ago

Isn't it obvious? The current administration cannot take the heat! Most citizens with normal intelligence can themselves see and understand the gaffs and untruths the President and his Admin speak to us. The President promised "transparency" (where is it?), allowing at least 5 days for legislation to be available before being debated and voted on (Not happening) will eliminate all "ear marks" (There were about 9000 in the Stimulus bill), he spoke of all the points in his "health care plan" and he did not present a plan, never had one and is making Congress do the work and being set up to take the blame when the results are not going to measure up!
Freedom of speech is granted to us all. Freedom to report the truth and question actions and intentions is certainly granted to Fox and other news. But please can the news agencies and news media check out their sources before reporting falsely and can they please give both sides of the story, not just the party line?

  • L. Ford - 16 years ago

I am 73. I taught the constitution for many years. Never have I seen such abuse of power. And with the help of mainstream media. They elected Obama, let them go after him. I don't think they have the guts to stand up to him. They make me sick. I am sick for America.
I am descended from signers of the Declaration of Independence, Speakers of the House of Burgesses, early colonists who rebelled on tryanny. Are we not becoming victims of tryanny---the same kind of tryanny that led to the Revolutionary War? My Gr- grandfather fought for the Union from a Southern State in the Civil War. I must be true to those early ancestors and take my stand.
I am also a believer in the Bible. These horrible things must come to pass in the End Time. It is recorded there. Wake UP, America! Check it out. The Christians will be caught up. Those left will face a tribulation period like the world has never known. That is recorded in the Bible also.
Contine on Fox and Friends!! Blessings on you.
I won't be getting back on this site. I rarely go to press. But I decided before this right is stripped from us, I best have taken my stand. As for
Obama--you are watching a dictator in the making!!! I do remember Hitler and WW11.

  • Solana2012 - 16 years ago

When I vote, I vote for my chosen candidate though I don't always agree with all his/her views, just most of them. If I could only vote when I agree with all of his/her views, I wouldn't be allowed to vote at all. This is a democracy. The majority wins, whether it's voting, or implementing policies and bills and laws that the majority of the people want. The majority apparently voted for Obama; he is the president. Logically, that means the majority liked the majority of his campaign views. Today, however, the majority does not like his health care plan proposal(s). The majority is outraged over the bail-outs. The majority is outraged over cap-and-trade. The majority is outraged with the sugar-tax proposal. The majority is outraged over his lack of communication/support with our overseas military personnell.

Obama is refusing to listen to the voices of the majority.
Left or right, Fox is the only news station supporting democracy.

If Obama would take time to deal with the real problems at hand.......Toops to Iraq as was requested, the economy, stop printing money and quit playing golf ,quit fighting battles that do not need fighting ....such as Medical insurance controlled by the Government. Freedom of speech ...Fox News etc... contol of the car industry,Banks, trying to regulate our use of heating and cooling in our homes telling us how much sugar we should or shoudn't eat..Hey ! I noticed his daughters on vacation had soda pop cups in the golf cart they were riding in with their father. How about he quit smoking? This shows his inexperience and the lack of knowledge as to what is really important for the USA.
He wants to be a ruler and take us straight into socialism. We are letting our freedoms slip right through our hands...We will never get them back.

My question is, what respect do we owe any politician in Washington, Republican or Democrat? For the most part, they are career "public servants", who only serve themselves. They should have to answer any question posed to them by anyone. I was brought up understanding that a person earns respect. I haven't seen much in the last 10 to 20 years from a politician that has earned ANY respect.

We survived the demise of Nash, Hudson, Packard, etc. We survived the closing of Woolworth stores, Montgomery-Ward, and the move of the Dodgers and Giants to the West Coast. Now we suddenly need the federal government to save our way of life. If there was ever a case of the fox watching the hen house......I'll stick with Fox News and continue to vote against every incumbent politician.

  • prehist51 - 16 years ago

I watch Fox News and the networks most nights so that I can see how a particular political story is being reported. Fox News is the only media that is anywhere close to fair and balanced. Because Fox does actually give both the conservative and liberal point of view on political issues, it is perceived by those on the left as being biased. Also, the network news, MsNBC, and CNN have been blasting Fox News for several years. To someone that only occassionally watches Fox and gets most of its news from the networks, NPR, AP, NYT etc., Fox would seem to be biased toward the right because these people have been sheltered from hearing anything other than the liberal mantra. There is no conservative voice on network news, CNN, MSNBC, or the leading newspapers in our nation. Here's a fact for you liberals, David Gergen, David Brooks, George Will, Joe Scarborough, are not conservatives.
Anyone that thinks that Fox is biased toward only the conservative point of view has already drank the kool-aid and has been brain-washed by the revolutionaries.
I challenge everyone, watch nothing but Fox News for one week. Don't take the word of the Fox commentators but do your own independent research into their stories. First you will find that Fox will do a good job of giving you the sources of its stories and that nearly everything they say is documented. Check these sources and documents out. Fox commentators will always identify their biases, they are proud to be conservatives, moderates, independents, liberals, or libertarians.

Next watch CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, and CNN. Check out their stories. Nearly 100% of their information on political news comes from either the Obama administration propaganda machine, or Democrat party talking points.

The Obama administration has even admitted that they control the information going to the media. That's why they hate Fox so much, Fox doesn't buy their lies, Fox fact checks what the administration puts out and that infuriates the little messiah.

    JJ 2009-10-30 14:04:40 ET,

Jon Stewart is a comedian. He is not a political commenator. He regularly butchers and edit clips just so he can build a joke around it.

If you take anything he says as serious news then you are an absolute moron and Stewart would agree 100% with me on that point. Find the original sources of those news clips and the shows they came from and listen to them in context and unedited.

It's a whole different story and not nearly as funny. But then Stewart stopped being funny when he went in the tank for the Democrat party sooo many years ago.

I mean really, you guys ran John Kerry for pres. and Stewart never even made one joke about him? And we got Joe Biden as vice pres, I don't watch The Daily Show any more but Biden is a walking joke machine. You could easily get more jokes out of Biden than the entire Bush administration and most of the time you just have to let Biden speak and they sit back and wait for the laughter. He is just that easy to make fun of.

I notice that today the NPR poll seems to have swung in the favor Fox News direction. Good news for freedom of speech. Of course Obama is wrong to ban Fox News. Many of the complainers above are looking at Hannity, Beck and those guys ... these guys are opinion columnists, but they do their research and dare to challenge any administration. Look at the rest of Fox News and you'll see clearly fair and balanced news reporting AND they do ask questions that I've not heard from any of the other "news outlets". Let's get real. Fox News is the only outlet that dares to ask Obama and WH the hard questions. Obama and the WH just don't want to answer them because they'll find themselves in even bigger lies. I cringe when I think about the direction our country is headed. This is not what I want for my children nor for my retirement....and I will retire soon ... if there's retirement left and if I still have a job. Thank you Fox News for doing what needs to be done.

  • Mike - 16 years ago

From reading the commentary, there is obviously a lot of confusion between NEWS and commentary...although it hardly comes as a surprise since Uncle Walter, Tom Brokaw and Rather have been injecting their personal (liberal) bias into NEWS reporting since the 1960s. People please. Beck, Hannity and O'Reilly are commentators. It is their job to take a position, defend that position and perhaps to have others challenge them. The fact that Fox News has on commentators who are popular and attract high ratings should be applauded..that is the reason for any corporation. To maximize its return to its owners. If you want to make a fair comparison, you compare the pure NEWS programs such as Shep Smith, with Couric and her ilk. I think if you compare only the news shows you will find a lot more BALANCE on Fox than any other network. As for the commentary...hey folks..just like the reality shows NBC airs in prime time, you air what attracts audience. I know it kills you but Fox News out polls CNN, Headline News and MSNBC COMBINED in prime time. Perhaps Fox News isn't too popular with the liberal elites who watch and listen to NPR, but it is certainly popular with "the folks".

I watch Fox News and ONLY Fox News. No one forced me to watch this network...I did it on my own.. (what you call USA Freedom). MSNBC - so unfair and unbalanced!..I watched it one day..that is all I needed. CNN? Well, even CNN may be on our side, too. One of the newswoman of CNN (Ms. Brown) is questioning the accusations against Fox News....I have watched CNN before a little....but now I find myself turning the channel to CNN... thanks for being Fair and Balanced, CNN. And Thanks, Ms. Brown, for being fair and balanced!

I have never seen a president in my lifetime (and I have been around for a while)....getting people riled up...isn't his job to help unite Americans...instead of dividing us up? I wish I could believe what he tells us but he is proven wrong so many times (i.e., did you ever notice when he quotes "numbers" they are always really exaggerated.....later the truth comes out by those who are fair and balanced). Thank God for Fair and Balanced! And GOD BLESS THE USA.

I am thrilled to see that the majority of people want total freedom of the presses, including Fox TV. I do not believe our current liberal prez, nor our next conservative president, should avoid nor ignore any news media outlets, simply because they don't want to answer the tough questions. If they want to avoid tough questions, they should have stayed out of politics altogether!!

I believe we should return to the REAL constitution, which would eliminate these whiney causes. Those who believe that Fox should not be included, should not be allowed to vote, due to ignorance.

  • #scott - 16 years ago

it is scary to me that someone, the white house, feels the need to hush up free speech. fox news is just on the other side. so i guess cnn news will be shut down after the next election. cause i am going to vote every one that is in office, out. don't care if a dem or a rep. right now there all in it for themselves. we need all the questions ask, not just the ones that are planned by the amd, of the pres. folks you better wake the f up and start asking for yourself. if you wait and see whats going on it will be to late.

  • Citizen X - 16 years ago

I do not agree with the White House banning Fox News. I do, however, think that they are not 'fair and balanced' as they claim. I have long considered myself Republican and Conservative. I did however vote for Obama because I believed he was the right choice. I'm not completely happy with what he has done, but I'm willing to see where it goes. I do think they are completely wrong on the healthcare bill, but I stray too far. I have tried to keep an open mind, but Fox News rubs me the wrong way. All they do is yell and accuse and jump to conclusions from small bits of 'evidence'. All they want to do is argue with people. O'Reilly is the worst of all. I've seen him just cut off a person and say the interview was over because they didn't agree with him. And Fox News most definitely has an agenda. If they didn't, wouldn't they allow a spirited conversation/debate to continue to get all the info and facts instead of cutting them off because they have to stick to the 'agenda' they have prepared. Now I realize most news channels also do this, but if they claim to be so fair and balanced as they claim, then they would allow things to run over a bit. So what if they don't get to broadcast their 'stupid people' segment. We don't care about that anyway

  • SB - 16 years ago

I am personally glad there is a news organization that is not afraid to ask the hard questions...Like Fox News. I want to keep the freedom that my fore fathers fought so hard to establish. I believe Fox News is doing an awesome job and they need to continue. Obama is just scared that he will be found out on what he is actually trying to accomplish. Like taking away our freedom of speech and religion and much more.

  • L Brown - 16 years ago

Fox shows it all as far as I can see. Can the mainstream news make the same statement and be truthful? As a viewer, I have to be able to sort opinion from actual news and this applies to all channels. Again, at least on Fox the viewer sees it all.

First Fox, then CNN, then ABC, after awhile Gobel takes over. Seems like liberals are for free speech as long as it agrees with their thought process. Shutting down someone who disagrees with them is only natural for a liberal.

  • T J - 16 years ago

How's about a series of debates on NPR about global warming? Seems like it would be a great way to boost listenership and be topical as well. Come on NPR, it is in the public interest to get this out in the open.

Even if Fox was this ultra right winged propaganda tool like the left thinks then they are the only ones who provide any type of balance.

The rest of the media is so far in the tank for Obama they wouldn't know truth from a tingle running up their legs.

This is a point made by Rush Limbaugh years ago when he said that he was the balance. Fox and AM Talk Radio is the balance to ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, Time Magazine, The NY Times, the LA Times, the Washington Post and 99% of the rest of print journalism, 99.999% of every movie or television program and about 75% of everything on NPR and PBS.

The left is soooo skewed about what is the center that when anyone talks about what's in the Constitution they get called extremist ultra right wingnuts. Well count me in as another crazy fanatic who believes in individual liberty, inalienable rights and the rule of law. Who believes that government has a duty to not waste tax money and that the federal government must be kept small and relatively powerless.

  • Bigdog - 16 years ago

What is fair? What is balanced? Impartial? ALL current news outlets in this and every other country have their subjective agenda. Get ratings, sell papers, increase market share, create conflict and buzz for more attention to advance individual careers and goals. Business is the bottom line. Providing honest and truthful
information for American populous is low on the list of media moguls.
Fox is a good counterpoint to the liberal majority network coverage of national and world affairs. It helps to insure their will be a continuing debate as an alternative to compliance and total submission to the state.

Whatever side you take??? What ever happened to Freedom of Speech??
The White House does not have the right to stop any News Station from attending any Press Conference. Fox News has the right to attend and voice their views. Too bad for the White House if things aren't going their way.

Almost all of the Fourth Estate has abrogated their responsibilities to the American Public. They have been guilty of "protecting" the president and not the American public. They don't report anything negative about the President and he certainly has an agenda of re-distributing America's wealth. Almost all save for one, Fox News. Fox News has done a stellar job of warning the public of O's Socialist agenda. For that they should be awarded acclamation, not criticism. Thank God for Fox News!! Of course his administration wants to silence Fox. Over my dead body!! I think all News organizations should be brought up on charges of treason, except Fox. This is how Hitler rose to power in Germany. All the press went along with him. God save and protect Fox News!!

  • CMD - 16 years ago

I am a regular listener of both NPR and Fox News. Typically I fall somewhere in the middle, but lately because of these attacks I lean closer to Fox. Both organizations fill a need as they report on very different subjects and in a very different style. Like it or not, Fox has become the voice for a large part of our country. Along with standard news stories (just like the other news organizations) Fox reports on subjects you do not see or hear on other news stations. Even my local NPR station is attacking Fox in their fall campaign. For that reason, I haven’t listened since.

Regardless of anyone’s political leanings the drive to silence a news organization is seriously frightening. That should set off red flags for everyone. History shows this to be dangerous, especially when it is lead by someone at the pinnacle of power.

Liberals have to be smarter than to take the bait so easily.

  • jones - 16 years ago

It does not matter whether you like or dislike Fox News. It does not matter if they are spreading propoganda or if they are not. In this country we have rights that are laid out by the constitution and one of them is the right to free speech. Fox News and anyone else for that matter has the RIGHT to say whatever they want and if the citizens of this nation do not stand up for the rights of Fox News then they are not standing up for the protection of the same rights which they enjoy.

This "WAR" between FOX NEWS and the Whitehouse is almost FUNNY! Everyone in the Whitehouse has been asked to appear on FOX NEWS to tell their side, but they have declined. Fox also put in a direct phone line for the Whitehouse to call, but they won't call. What are they (DC) afraid of? Why won't they go on FOX NEWS? If they had nothing to HIDE, and truly believed in what they were doing, was for the GOOD of ALL, why NOT go on FOX? That alone shows they are trying to HIDE something. Wake up America... its way past time to start ASKING the RIGHT questions, and demanding the ANSWERS!

  • LP - 16 years ago

All of these comments are a prime example of what America is supposed to be. Freedom from tyrrany and oppression are exactly what our founders fought and died for. What would they think if they could see their government trying to silence a group of people because they express opinions or report matters in a way that they would not?

I know someone whose immigrated from Cuba and according to her, the type of action attempted by the White House is strickingly similar to Castro's actions many years ago.

The questions I want answered are the ones ONLY FOX has the chutzpah to ask. Strangely enough, these are the very questions the current Administration and the Congressional leadership seem unwilling to face and send them all squirming! SMALL WONDER! The pitiful character of this administration is clearly demonstrated by its shameless efforts to manipulate the news. IF Fox is advocacy journalism, then THANK GOD they are there to FAIRLY BALANCE the other side. And Fox's growing share of eyeballs and ears should send a clear message to anybody paying attention! And while I'm not particularly enamored of his delivery style, thank GOD for Glen Beck's message!

What part of "Free Speech" and "Freedom of the Press" doesn't the White House understand. Why would the Commander in Chief of one of the most powerful nations on earth which was founded on certain rights want to censor some of those rights? What's the matter, the White House can't take the heat? Well, you know what they say? If you can't take the heat, then get out of the kitchen! Go Fox news and kudos for all of the other networks who supported Fox and stood up to the White House!

I'm beginning to think that having Obama as President just might be agood thing after all - maybe the people in this country will wake up and begin to really listen and see what has been going on. We're going to continue losing our freedoms and of course our money if we don't react and act. Pay attention people, we have an anti American and anti capitalism President.

The true contributers to this country of ours can and do take with a grain of salt negitive statements and situations thrown our way, I have done so for almost thirty years as an innovator, business owner and employer. Our great nation was built on hard work and innovation, and dedication, and those of us who have and are a part of this mentality drive the gears that make this machine run. We are those that make decisions on who belongs running our government based on knowledge provided from all sides and sources, not based on free hand-outs. I have seen changes that literally sicken me with our workforce attitude and this new government railroad of so-called " Stimulous". As far as I am concerned as a public figure and employee of all of ours, part of your responcibilites are to answer ALL the questions asked whether pro's or con. I aplaud FOX News for thier perseverance. Remember the saying, Give a man a fish... (there's a new ending on the horizon), and he will vote for you.

While I did answer this question in "favor" of Fox News...I'm becoming increasingly concerned that Fox in its news coverage is acting more and more like its counterparts at CNN and MSNBC... If it weren't for Sean, O'Reilly and Beck I don't know if Fox would look ALL that different.

An American public that is not concerned about a White House that wishes to control the Free Press is an American public that deserves to lose all that our forefathers fought so hard to create. We either have not studied our world history or we simply don't care to study our world history. A Free Press is essential to protecting what we have come to regard as our natural birth right--individual choices, freedoms, and a representative government.

Our founding fathers actually believed that the average, run-of-the-mill common man had enough sense to build, operate, and maintain a country independent of nobility; hence the term common sense. However, the citizens of this country work very hard every day to prove that our founding fathers were mere romantics, that the majority of people are indeed witless fools without the capacity to use their brains for more than their own self-indulgence. In other words, they are little more than instinctual beasts functioning only for their own satisfactions--eating, drinking, urinating, defecating, procreating. And it is to those ends that they make decisions regarding their government and those it employs.

We need not worry about an outside enemy, for we will fall from within just as Rome did because of our own foolishness. Each day's headlines in this country do nothing but prove this tragedy. This latest is so blatant as to make those among who do know our history and pay attention weep for what the future of this country will be if we do not see the writing on the wall and take action, for "the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."

The ONLY positive thing Obama has done for our country is to oust Hillary during the campaign. I am not disappointed in Obama. I have not expected much of him; if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck... et al. If your kids hung out with the types of people Obama has hung out with, you'd ground them! (if you were a responsible parent, that is!)

But I AM utterly and completely disappointed in the people of America who believed (and STILL believe) that he is bringing real "change"! He has hired unqualified and ineffective cronies to major positions in his administration. What he HAS done well, is blame. Since Obama blames everyone else for the ineffectiveness of his administration so far, he can blame McCain for his Presidential win.

Giving the government MORE is not a solution, just like good counseling and reasoning does not end wars!! Using what we have more effectively IS.

Let's elect a good business person!!! Someone with experience. Someone who knows money. Take the best CEO in America and give him the job. How about Dave Ramsey!?

Fox is the ONLY station I will listen to because a huge portion of all of the other newcasting organizations and newscasters are Democrats. Information is always distributed with a slant (because humans are involved)...and I'd rather hear it slanted on a conservative nature than liberal. I want a smaller, more effecient government with MORALS and is not afraid to believe in God and what this country was founded on.

At least FoxNews attempts to be fair. And whether you like Bill O'Reilly or not, if you WATCH and listen to him objectively, you will know that he is fair. The American public is much better off because Glenn Beck was like a dog with a bone when it came to exposing ACORN. Geez...if I didn't have to work for a living, I would want to have done the same thing!!

I am gratified to see that 61% of this poll is in the favor of FoxNews ATM. I just wish the rest of you would wake up and expect more from both the mainstream media AND your government.

Major News Networks refused White House

    WITH A LITTLE RIGHT’S LIGHT
    By
    Ian Jay Germaine

More that 300,000,000 American’s, and politicians elected to represent them in government have but moments left to reflect the past, present and future. Hundreds of years ago with only 13 Colony’s and their sparse numbers, only 10 years past before an ultimate bi-partisan debate arrived and the adoption of “The United States Constitution.”

No internet, phones, radio’s or televisions and what news media there was really saturated in but a few city’s. And yet in running the Government today with all the communication that ensures instant spreading of the news, “We the People” are the last to know. All seems to be secret except to those that would see the demise of our country, the envy of the civilized world.

It’s highlighted in 2009 with the beginning of Barack Obama’s White House and current Congress in the hands of the Demo sneaks. The Presidential appointments that haven’t been vetted by anyone except perhaps Obama, also have no oversight. On Philosophical grounds alone, many Czars seem to oppose the principles we stand for, as do words from the President, both at home and abroad.

Our leaders followed with an ill conceived Stimulus Bill that rapidly began filling the pockets of Political payback and still not many said stop. Nine months later and we still know little more than the headline of the bill. $8000 for 1st time buyers of homes and they want to extend the tax payers bleed at a time that reports arrive about the amount of Fraud in the program. And then we have Cash for Clunkers doing nothing more than a temporary lift in sales to auto Company’s our taxes support to sell still at a loss.

The continued sponsoring of ACORN who supported by the President still continues to have contracts with the Government. Yes, we know about these, yet they still persist even though some of their contracts have been pulled.

Now with the a continued push to Socialize Health Care, create more taxes with Cap and Trade, set wages in private industry and redistribute the wealth who must we depend on? What horse must we ride to spread the word of this Great Nation? Perhaps we do have a light at the end of the tunnel. We have all been part of the decline in freedom. Not listening to the sound of evil is no different than agreeing with evil. Our codifications lie in what was finished and agreed to in 1786 for the world to see. What was established importantly spelled out our Rights and showed it head when it has been silent or complacent for so long.

As an attempt to violate those Rights first precept, the Executive Branch was in the midst of shutting down information to a large part of the body politic. Misdirected by competitiveness or perhaps some fear of exclusion of favor the “Major News Networks” refused to accept a press conference without the inclusion of all media tasked with covering the White House. That was to include the excluded FOX News. Perhaps all the media remembered if one can be excluded now, what will happen when and if they fall from favor for simply asking the questions someone wouldn’t. The President of the United States is subject to the same Constitution as every other citizen. And with a little Right’s Light in a dark room, with a real bipartisan effort, we will all remember our Rights, starting with this one…

    Our Constitution

    1 st. Amendment

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”###

  • kioni - 16 years ago

I believe that the mainstream media has lost most if not all credibility due to their unbalanced reporting during the election. I also believe that Fox News is unbalanced in their reporting but they don't lie. There is a big difference. The mainstream media is finally starting to point out some of the Obama administration lies and attempts to manipulate public view but it is too late. They cost McCain/Palin the election, literally. I am a registered democrat and was going to vote for Hillary. The media took her nomination away as well. I want the stimulus money to be returned and our economic situation to be addressed honestly and through fiscal discipline. I also think that most congressmen and women need to be displaced due to their inability to work together. I would keep McCain, Lieberman, Snow, and those who will not vote the party line but who have the guts to vote for what is best for the American People.

  • Beth - 16 years ago

I find it discouraging and shocking that the White House would take on a news station...any news station the way it has attacked FOX News. Free speech is one of our our constitutional rights. Why is the White House attacking Fox for their free speech reports? Has Fox hit a nerve? Are their reports so correct that the White House is running scared?
I am 62 years old and I have seen such news media control as this administration is exerting and wants to exert. Don't let this attempt on censorship go unnoticed or unprotested. Let the White House and other news outlets know we want to hear truth on all news stations and we do not want The White House or this (or any) adminsitration to be in control...picking and choosing what we hear and how we hear.
    Thank you.

Obama & the tzars he appointed are pushing measures through Congress That the people do not want. Some of his other lies are: He vowed transparency, he would not raise taxes on the middle class, he vowed to get rid of lobbyist that want favors, he vowed no secrets, he vowed to expose pork projects.
He is doing things the Main Stream Media cannot comment about because they are so twisted. If the main stream media remains silent then the fox news is likely to sound one sided to the lefty's. When Obama Rams things on & over 60% of the voter don't like them, Fox will seem one sided.
We should not be printing money to expand government we should be shrinking government & lowering taxes to pay off bills.

I always listened to the major network, (ABC, NBC, CBS, & CNN), until the election last year. They always seemed to be in love with "Obama". They never seemed to answer any tough questions. I have always been interested in politics and have always voted since I was 21 (I am 66 now), but never had to time to get involved. I recently retired and really got involved last election.
A friend told me about Fox News and I have been hooked ever since. They may be a little to the right, but they are the only network that asks the tough questions. They broke the ACORN story. CNN was the only one who gave any time at all after Fox broke the story.

Right now, Fox is the only network, giving any depth to the health care coverage. The government is about to take over 1/5 of the GNP and the other networks are not covering. How about the deficit? Where is the coverage. All I see is fluff. My country is being taken over by socialists and the major networks won't cover it.

I became so concerned this year, that I was losing my county, that I became a news junkie. I also have been to a "Tea Party" and written many letters and e-mail's. I am now running for the county board in Will County, Illinois.
I realized that with Obama and all of his spending, that there would be a need for people that believed in fiscal responsibility.

Keep up the good work Fox. bobbaldwin@bobbaldwinserves.com

What literally sickens me is seeing this sudden defense of "journalistic ethics" by the major networks, after eight long years of watching their gutless and self-preserving failure to honestly gather and publish the news during the Bush administration. I still trust the major media, somewhat, but their failure to dig deeper over the past decade is disturbing.

And finally; ... no, Fox News is not, by any stretch of the imagination, a "news agency". It is advocacy journalism, period. Or as Rupert Murdoch brags; it is "popular journalism."

  • George Trail - 16 years ago

The point here is not whether Fox or the White House is right. Cutting of a major news network because the White House doesn't like their 'bias' is the scarriest thing since Hiltler appointed Goebbels as propaganda minister. The White House has total access to all the news channels, has a noon press briefing every day, administration representatives are on the Sunday talk shows every week. What on earth are they afraid of?l
