  • J. Armando - 15 years ago

I normally buy CDs on my local record store but sometimes I pre-order the CD's, but it's very rare.

  • Brandon - 15 years ago

I especially like shopping record stores for vinyl editions

  • Moanis Salem - 15 years ago

i prefer having the physical CD itself, but most of the time i go for digital downloads that's because the local store don't update frequently.

  • Brian - 15 years ago

So much easier doin digital. Machine f'n Head!

  • Jen - 15 years ago

I usually pre-order new stuff from band or label. If it's something older that I don't have, I'll usually pick it up at a show. I often pick up cds for the opening band(s) at shows too, if I like them and can afford it.

  • alisonz - 15 years ago

I buy both digital and physical. I like amazon for mp3 and physical disks, and my somewhat local record stores for physical releases. I generally like to buy used, as it's cheaper. Would love to win DT's new release!

  • Brad - 15 years ago

Lately I have been all about records. Or emusic , Ijust love that place.

  • Matt - 15 years ago

Definitely would rather buy it directly from the band at a show.. but preorder bundles are pretty sick as well.

  • Cook - 15 years ago

I prefer to buy cds, so I can have the physical product. It doesn't always work that way, so ITUNES is also a big part of my music buying.

  • Belle - 15 years ago

Generally speaking I preorder/buy my CD's from amazon.com and the like, but thats only because my local HMV doesnt have a very wide selection of music I like. I prefer traditional stores such as HMV, but the internet does have a wider selection and its cheaper. I only use Itunes when someone gives me Itunes credit for my birthday or something, I like having CD copies of my music as opposed to downloads.

  • Steve F. - 15 years ago

i mostly pre order from the label or band website cause i love the bumdles that have to offer, plus i like being able to actually hold the cd in my hands.if not that way i will go to amazon or ebay.

  • Taylor Regis - 15 years ago

I love music so I'll buy it anyway I can, I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT IT!!!! :D I usually buy from iTunes, buy a bunch of CDs, go on YouTube.

  • Mauricio Rodríguez - 15 years ago

I listen to streams and if it's worth and I like, then I buy the album...

  • Timothy Billings - 15 years ago

I have always bought my CD's from Amazon.com or The End Records sometimes I would order from other places too, Wherever I can get my metal for a good deal that's where I'll buy even at my local record store.

  • Oana Gheorghiu - 15 years ago

I (pre) order them at Amazon. I had some bad experiences in the past with items ordered on bands' websites (I never got the products, sometimes I got a refund, sometimes I didn't get one), so it's safer for me to order from a place I know it's actually shipping what I've paid for.

  • Francesco Sorricaro - 15 years ago

I usually buy music in every way I can. I'm a real feticist of all my favourite bands stuff, and three of the four bands the contest is about are included in my personal roster!!!

  • Zoki - 15 years ago

    Dream Theater forever that music!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jonathan - 15 years ago

Most of the time I shop my cd's on Amazon.com or Archambault.com or if I get to leave my place I buy them myself at my nearest music store.

Anyway, I listen to some of the songs on the album on youtube most of the time before buying my cd's.

Hah, thanks to roadrunner records for this! I wouldn't know all these groups I know and I wouldn't buy that much cd's without them!

  • Shane - 15 years ago

theres somethin about actually holding a piece of music that MP3s cant compare to. the artwork, the lyrics, een the thank yous are a good read to discover bands theyve toured with .

  • Terry Vanderpool - 15 years ago

I like to buy my CDs

  • Michy - 15 years ago

If I'm undecided or don't know a band but their live performance has won me over then I'll buy their cd at the show (if they have one), if I'm really anticipating the release of an album I'll pre-order it from the band/label, otherwise I'll get it from itunes. Times are hard right now & I know some people don't buy their music, but I've seen too many bands break up or get dropped from their label due to low record sales, and it's sad. I support music!!!

  • Juan Ayub - 15 years ago

From my local record store is the option I choose.
I love the feeling of getting up in the morning only for going to buy my new music CD. I love music, so that´ s the greatest feeling in the life.

  • Rob - 15 years ago

I would buy them from record stores locally if they ever had the music I wanted

  • Sean - 15 years ago

Use the store, kind of an immediate gratification type of person.

  • Joseph - 15 years ago

I hadn't really bought anything in a while the nearest place to buy music is at Hot Topic in the mall. I don't go to the mall very often. Well I could go to Walmart but who wants edited music, that is just stupid to me. I like to hear the artist's music as it was meant to be heard. But its ok I'll just sit here and listen to what I still have after my cds were stolen. I have a few left and I have some vinyl and I still have cassettes that work so I'll be ok!

  • Dawn B - 15 years ago

It depends on where I can find it. If I can buy it directly from the band at either a show or their website for a reasonable price I will. If I can get it local (and they actually have it in stock), great because then I have it in my hand right away. If Amazon is cheaper I'll go that way. It also sometimes depends on the extras/bonus songs if there are any.

  • Jamie - 15 years ago

I buy CD's from anywhere I can find them...unedited of course! I don't like MP3's...I prefer to have the CD's right there where I can see them and look at the inserts and such. Plus, I would be devastated if my music library git wiped out because of a computer malfunction!

  • Mo! - 15 years ago

    Long live Streaming music! :D

  • Spideralex90 - 15 years ago

Dream Theater and Machine Head ftw.

  • Steven K - 15 years ago

I primarily buy everything from Amazon, as it tends to be the cheapest option. I do this for everything that I know that I want (older stuff, new releases I know I want, things I'm familiar with already). Otherwise I buy most everything else from live shows, especially opening acts that I may not have heard of before.

  • David I. - 15 years ago

I buy the records from a local record-shop, because i want to support the local economy.

  • Chris Karlsen - 15 years ago

I always buy my favourite music either from my local store or trough the bands official channel, because i see that if i want my favourite band to continue making the music i like, i need to do my part as well.

  • Bryan Abston - 15 years ago

I will usually buy online or in my local record/retail stores.

  • Mike - 15 years ago

    Princeton Record Exchange

  • Nettacki - 15 years ago

I buy music from Amazon and the local music store, occasionally buying a few from the concerts I go to. All of which, BTW, are CDs. Admittedly, I also buy a few MP3s on occasion, but not that often.

  • Larry Scott - 15 years ago

Really excited about the new stuff from Opeth and Machine Head

  • Gabe Samuelson - 15 years ago

I stream what I can and if I like it enough I'll buy it. If it's not being streamed I'll listen to preview on iTunes or the band's site and then decide if I want to buy it.

  • Taylor Ryan - 15 years ago

    Yus

  • GW - 15 years ago

Why could we only pick 3 options? Shouldn't it have been click all that apply? I would have also picked pre-oreder, itunes, and streaming but I couldn't. basically my answer is a ll of the above except I don't listen to music. Why would you be here if you didn't?

  • Harrison Reddy - 15 years ago

Preordering- That way I can get the LE prints.

  • Hovig jarkezian - 15 years ago

Well since FYE no longer is around, I was looking around for a record store for a long time. I eventually found an awesome one bout an hour away. I drive there to get all my music stuff all the time. Hour going and coming back.

  • T4R - 15 years ago

I like to support the bands as much as possible, but unfortunately I often can't wait until the show to buy the CD, so I buy a hard copy at the store or online early. Thanks!

  • Sophie - 15 years ago

    HMV or itunes

  • Claire - 15 years ago

Usually whichever MP3 website has the best deal.

  • Meriem - 15 years ago

I mostly buy my music online (play.com is great!), but nothing beats the browsing exprience in a good record shop :)

  • Eric - 15 years ago

What is this "local record store" you speak of?

  • Aminos - 15 years ago

Of course i download music, as i'm a bulimic of it-sic- how to know if the latest album of X worth buying? especially that i have many CDs. Nowadays, i buy more vinyls on ebay-amazon and other record stores /(also CDs) ... the new ones, i keep them sealed and listen on youtube.
CDs : vital ones for me, for the car... but MH, for sure i need the physical. i have all of 'em.

  • Mathieu - 15 years ago

One comment !! I always purchase original albums from Slipknot and Machine Head !! ;)

    Always good !

  • Allen J - 15 years ago

I buy cd's at the live shows. And download the rest from the group's or record company's site when I preorder the albums. I use Itunes when I receive giftcards.

  • Bozard - 15 years ago

Itunes, depending on what I can find in my local stores.

  • Matt - 15 years ago

I usually buy from Amazon because it is cheaper and I am a fatass. There aren't too many local stores around anymore, otherwise I'd buy there. I'll buy at the show, but I usually already have the album, but sometimes there are rare albums that you can only buy at shows, and I pick those up.

  • TERRY - 15 years ago

Usually Amazon, and I know who I am looking for...recently I have been exploring new artists, new music....so have pre-ordered some new artists, some old artists.

  • Eric - 15 years ago

I normally buy from Amazon or pre-order from the band or label's website when there are awesome pre-order extras, like Opeth and DT's collector's edition box set! On the rare occasion I can't find what I'm looking for for cheap online, I'll go to Hastings or whatever.

  • Marissa - 15 years ago

Having moved from a very small town out to Hollywood, I can't keep myself out of the local record stores. I'll occasionally order CDs online, but nothing comes close to the joy of going to a CD store and knowing they're gonna have exactly what you're looking for.

  • Rodrigo - 15 years ago

I prefer to buy directly to the artist, if i can't , go to a online shop

  • Leonardo S. Torres - 15 years ago

I usually go to record stores, sometimes, i bought it in gigs...

  • Jos B. - 15 years ago

I always go to the record store, i just love to browse to all the cd's ;)

  • Gus T - 15 years ago

When I buy, I like my local store, but mostly nowadays I visit cdwow.nl or cdwow.com online.

  • Gus T - 15 years ago

I follow Roadrunner and other band-websites, email-subscription is great, try to find the albums in advance on downloadsite and later buy or pre-order the music I like. Often special editions, with extra dvd or a great box and booklet, nice to look at, while listening the music.
The new DT is superb and if I don't win this I'm certainly buying, but I like to have everything of DT.
Also just bought 2 Within Temptation albums, I'm dutch so, I had to...

  • Ray Hansen - 15 years ago

For convenience I buy a lot of music online at Amazon.com but I enjoy patronizing our local record store. Hot Poop Records in Walla Walla, WA is the oldest independently owned record store in the state.

  • ROZ - 15 years ago

Unfortunately there are no more local record stores!

  • Christopher Lee - 15 years ago

I prefer buying online that way i have the music as a file and right away when I want it. I also like streams - espescially last.fm.

  • Sam - 15 years ago

I usually do a mixture of online and my local record store, can't wait for Machine Head's new album :D

  • Don - 15 years ago

I love seeing live Bands!!! If I like the band I buy the CD. I have a lot of independent music.

  • Sean Rafferty - 15 years ago

I normally buy CDs from HMV, but rarely anything that isnt on the 2 for £10 offer

  • Asa - 15 years ago

    Record stores!

  • Ana - 15 years ago

It is always from a store....whether a local one in my town or a store i find when I go somewhere abroad...i dont have the chance to pre-order stuff unfortunately

  • Luis - 15 years ago

suelo comprar música en mi tienda de siempre, pero si me interesa alguna edición especial , la pido en la web de la banda o en emp

  • Paul Fox - 15 years ago

there really are not any brick and mortar stores left anymore, so its Itunes or Amazon or pre order off of sites like Roadrunner.

  • Ed Nemmers - 15 years ago

    ...and I still miss vinyl!

  • Lisa - 15 years ago

    I love buying CD´s. It´s nearly an addiction ;)
I mostly buy them at amazon or at any local store...
I don´t like downloading albums because I want to have the CD in a physical form, so that I can hold it in my hands. In addition I like to watch the leaflets with pictures and lyrics inside. That belongs to a CD. ;)

  • stephy - 15 years ago

I personally dont buy Music, My Fiance buys it and then usually keeps it or gives it to me depending on if he likes it or not,He usually buys his at music stores but sometimes receives them as gifts!

  • Dan - 15 years ago

These are some amazing releases this year! Looking forward to hearing the new DreamTheater album the most though!

  • Claudia - 15 years ago

J'achète toujours ma musique sur Amazon, c'est la seule place où tu peux trouver tout ce que tu veux au même endroit!

  • Deivison Rodrigo Teixeira - 15 years ago

I listen to music on the internet, but I always get the cd or dvd if i like the album =)

  • Rob C - 15 years ago

I love to pre-order albums that come with cool bonus stuff. I also like to get the album straight from the band at the show, so I know they are geting their share of the money. Then I prefer to get the album from a local record store, not some chain store because local record stores care about the music and are very helpful with finding what you want. I don't like ordering mp3's because I prefer to have a hard copy of the album.

  • Justin Mensch - 15 years ago

I usually buy music at Rasputin or Best Buy.
The best place to get music is at the band's show! Hell yes. And they can sign the CD. There's no better feeling.

  • Luke Matters - 15 years ago

I collect CDs, so I always buy the music in a physical form.

  • adi - 15 years ago

In Poland CD costs a lot;D
especialy if they are rare, so I have to rip from stream, sometimes when band come to PL i'm able to buy, or when i find on ebay, or in the store, or site such as fan.pl
in past it was easier, it was easy to buy Korn, Nirvana, or RHCP, now i prefer bands such as Gather, Attack Attack!, As I Lay Dying, or Breathe Carolina, and probably all crabcore!;]

  • Susan W - 15 years ago

I usually buy my music at Amazon.com

  • brandon - 15 years ago

Wow, all these supposed metal lovers come on here and all they can say is how the want to win this prize.
The best way to me to buy an album is at the show, it doesn't get any better. where else can you better judge the music? nowhere. now, we cant always buy all our music at the show... although i wish i could, so that's when i fall back on itunes... unless its just one of those that you have to have the real deal copy, then i order from the band website and see what kind of packages i can get. you all know which ones those are for you.

  • Ryan Reed - 15 years ago

I still really enjoy buying CDs. I order a lot online depending on the offer or deal, but the majority of my purchases are from our local music store. Is just great to walk into a music store and browse. \m/>

  • Chris - 15 years ago

Basically always get CDs from my local store.

  • Joanna - 15 years ago

    Pick meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
    yaaay

  • Walt - 15 years ago

I almost always buy my music from the record store. I just like having the physical copy as well as the leaflets inside for lyrics and such. If it's just one specific song I want I go to iTunes.

  • goodman - 15 years ago

Wow!!! I want to win prize))

  • Anthony Murch - 15 years ago

Would love to win this! IIIIIIIIIIN WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVES *de dun dun dundundun dun dundundundun*

  • Maxxter66 - 15 years ago

I'm an old school guy. I like buying the CD.

  • Manny - 15 years ago

I think the label usually offers cool t-shirt/cd bundles for a good price, but I also like buying music directly from bands at shows (sometimes they're actually at their merch table and you can get them to sign it or at least talk music with them) or at the local record store (while they still exist.) Online retailers are good for harder to find releases or if it's just too good of a deal to pass up.

  • Russell - 15 years ago

I buy in-store and online, depending on the prices.

  • Walt Brown - 15 years ago

I like the freedom of having the CD. That way I have the "full sound" of the album, but can convert it to mp3, WMA, or whatever. But even with those lossy formats I still have the source, if I wanna listen to it.

  • Ronald - 15 years ago

I visit my local New/Used Record store kinda often, like 3 times a week. I don't buy mp3's, if I shop online, I order the CD. Almost half of my collection are Roadrunner Records albums, I'm not afraid to say that this is one of my favorite record labels. I've seen it evolve over the years (almost 15 years), my first RR album was Roots by Sepultura, and my last Blunt Force Trauma by Cavalera Conspiracy :]

  • deadmeat08 - 15 years ago

i'm really digging these nachos, man...

  • Kat - 15 years ago

    machine head and trivium, awesome.

  • MajLev - 15 years ago

I have bought my CDs mainly from one on-line retailer because they have hard to get CDs and are fairly cheap. But I also like to buy CDs and merchandise at concerts. But after getting Spotify I don´t buy as much music as I did before. Now I only buy music from my absolutely fav bands.

  • Jose Palomo - 15 years ago

I still mostly buy all my cd's from the record store

  • Arthur - 15 years ago

As i prefer to buy Deluxe Collectors editions i try to preorder them because they are always limited and if you didn't do it first %) then it'll be very hard to find anywhere.

  • Bob Jacobs - 15 years ago

I usually buy used on eBay. I will buy new from the bands' websites, different record labels, or online retailers. Will also download sampler albums from record labels(as long as they are free). Sometimes buy new albums at shows.

  • Chad - 15 years ago

I usually go with itunes first since most of my music winds up on the ipod anyway. I very rarely buy a physical CD any more but when I do I either order from Amazon or go the (semi) local music store.

  • bile - 15 years ago

Usually buy CDs from Amazon or at shows. Try to always have the highest quality.
